Trainee Quantity Surveyor - Contracting

Our Higher Apprenticeship Programmes offer the perfect blend of personal and professional development, with opportunities for a Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to join our team at our site in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire. The role is commutable from Loughborough, Leicester, Coalville, Melton Mowbray and surrounding areas. 

Working as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor in our Contracting teams, you will get exposure to a broad range of supervisory roles and responsibilities. A typical day as a Apprentice Quantity Surveyor – Contracting will be very varied but you'll develop knowledge quickly, through the support of your Line Manager and colleagues. Key areas of work include:  

  • To support the preparation of monthly valuations and financial accounts. Assist in raising customer invoices with a view to maximising returns under the provisions of the Contract Conditions and Company procedures, driving the reduction of debt and costs 
  • Support in securing payments from customers within the specified contract terms and manage payment of subcontractors. 
  • Assist in the measurement of works, ensuring that the financial position of projects is accurately reported

Role Responsibility

Activities may include: 

  • You’ll develop knowledge and skills in Health & Safety, Sustainability, Construction Technology, Contracts and Procurement, Cost Controls and Financial Reporting 
  • Assist with measurement and valuation of works undertaken 
  • Undertake training & education provided by Tarmac 
  • Submit application for payment & ensure that payment is received within agreed timescales 
  • Provide assistance to management and commercial functions of a project as required.  
  • Undertake commercial analysis work as directed for management reporting purposes. 

While learning in your day-today role you will complete the Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician qualification, providing a fantastic introduction into the Building Materials Industry, and gateway to a career as a Quantity Surveyor, and

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications: 

  • Five GCSEs (or equivalent) A-C or numbered equivalent (9-4) including English and Maths, & x2 level 3 qualifications, which could include A levels, NVQ, BTEC, or a Level 3 apprenticeship. 

Skills: 

  • Analytical mindset

  • Strong numerical skills

  • Communication skills and ability to work within teams

  • Willingness to learn and develop​. 

  • Resilience​. 

  • Enthusiastic about starting a career in the building materials industry!​ 

  • Passionate about working safely​. 

  • A team player. 

  • Attention to detail 

ESSENTIAL – you must hold a full UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 points as you will have access to a company vehicle for this role in visiting other sites.

PLEASE NOTE - Interviews will take place on Thursday 20th July 2023, at our Mountsorrel site, and in the run up to interviews, interview guidance and support is offered to all candidates, with these sessions being ran via MS Teams.
