Area Relief Supervisor

We are recruiting for an Area Relief Supervisor to join our fantastic Tarmac Readymix ‘RMX’ team based from our Tarmac Silvertown RMX (Readymix) site in the heart of London and covering our London RMX plants. The plants are easily accessible via most major road networks and commutable from a multitude of places within the London, Greenwich, Canning Town, Woolwich, Plumstead, Bermondsey, East Ham, Bow, Hackney, Islington, Lambeth, Peckham, Bexleyheath, Dagenham, Barking, Ilford, Wanstead, Brixton, Erith, Rainham, Romford, Stratford and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

The Area Relief Supervisor will manage and be accountable for the RMX operations on our plants. You will be the Senior Supervisor where Safety and Operational standards are the fundamental aspects of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Area Relief Supervisor, not exhaustive:

  • Leading and active supervisory of the RMX operational teams with the delivery of toolbox talks
  • Manage all aspects of daily production including operational costs and control stocks
  • Efficient manufacture of concrete, controlling standard deviation and cement contents
  • Drive operational performance through KPI’s
  • Effectively coach and performance manage all direct reports
  • Timely resolution of queries assigned to the sector
  • Take responsibility for their own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
  • Maintain site housekeeping to a high standard
  • Batch concrete to meet customer needs whilst meeting internal quality requirements
  • Responsible for the budget in relation to the plants they are responsible for, these being both fixed and variable costs

Key Stakeholders you will liaise with in the responsibilities of this role:

  • Production Managers - Health & Safety team - Procurement and support teams - National Logistics team - Area Operations teams - Area Commercial teams - Area HR Manager - Industry Bodies – Customers

You must hold a FULL UK manual car driving Licence with no more than 6 penalty points

Due to the nature of the role we are open to accepting applications from candidates who can offer strong supervisory / management experience from within a similar ‘heavy’ industry, as product training will be given to the successful candidate

The role is a role where flexibility is ‘key’ to meet our production needs – with shift working and overtime available

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role the ideal candidate for the position of Area Relief Supervisor you will have experience and knowledge of:

ESSENTIAL Experience

  • Experience in Readymix ‘RMX’ plant operations at a supervisory level
  • Previous experience of an Asphalt / Aggregates environment would prove highly beneficial
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
  • Working knowledge of production processes
  • Working knowledge of H&S and Environmental policies

DESIRABLE Qualifications

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • NVQ in fixed and mobile plant operations

Skills

  • Able to actively identify and implement site and process improvements
  • Able to effectively communicate to feed opportunities into customer services / sales
  • Ability to multitask and manage change
