Area Technical Manager

We are currently looking for an experienced Area Technical Manager to join our friendly West Midlands team. This role will provide comprehensive and proactive technical support to management and customers in the region.

Role Responsibility
The successful candidate will be accountable for managing the area technical team and will have the responsibility for the operation of a multi-product technical department for the West Midlands Materials Area. Other responsibilities will include:
- Management of the day to day operation of the quality assurance function within a geographic area
- Actively promoting Quality Management to ensure that all products meet the required standards
- Providing a comprehensive and proactive technical support to management and customers in the region
- Ensuring a zero harm culture within the technical department.
- Support Area Director’s in developing Technical and Quality excellence within area
- Designing, planning, organising and overseeing all material testing to appropriate standards
- Management and directing of technical teams within the area including the supervision, coaching and development and succession planning of employees
- Providing a full and comprehensive support service proactively to the operations, distribution, customer service and commercial departments, championing Quality Management
- Establishing and maintaining most efficient designs for all finished products with consideration of quality, production and economic factors
- Maintenance of trial mixes, BOMs, SAP material files
- Effective handling of customer complaints through investigation of cause and appropriate reporting
- General customer, Council and engineer queries, giving timely advice and responses as and when required and supporting the technical team to manage.
- Provision of full and effective testing processes in accordance with standards and accreditation
- Manage the area to budget targets.
- To work with operational teams to deliver solutions to slow moving stock and mineral related product issues
- Assisting with development of new products/new markets adding to the portfolio
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be able to:
- Demonstrable knowledge of the quarrying, asphalt and concrete industry
- Have a good understanding of Company SHE requirements relating to the role including reporting requirements
- Have strong knowledge of technical operations for aggregates, asphalt and concrete industries.
- Have working knowledge of analytical techniques used i.e. CUSUM, OCL.
- Have excellent understanding of quality assurance systems and procedures.
- Have sound knowledge of Standards, Specifications, and Digests etc. relating to products and testing.
- Have specialist knowledge of aggregates, asphalt and concrete products and their applications.
- Have experience of working with stakeholders of varying seniority levels both internal and external
