Area Transport Manager

We are currently looking for an Area Transport Manager to be part of our fantastic team.
Role Responsibility
Reporting directly to the National Head of Fleet Operations, the Area Transport Manager will be responsible for delivering safe and industry-leading fleet solutions, through operator behaviours and our customer experience. As the successful candidate, you will be expected to maximise the competitive advantage and reduce reputational risk through ensuring compliance (FORS & CLOCS), and act as ambassadors for Tarmac with customers.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Leading a team of transport managers and transport account managers to deliver the national logistics road map and strategy within an operational area
- Deliver an industry-leading standard in Health, Safety, Well-being and Environmental driven through embedded engagement, demonstrated through the ‘Tarmac Way’ behaviours and great leadership.
- Ensure the Tarmac supply chain operates efficiently & effectively, by reviewing the Tarmac transport model and implementing the right mix of ICH, 3PL, own fleet where applicable
- Deliver a cost discipline focused performance team in line with that expected of a function
- Deliver our industry-leading transport, engaging hauliers, utilising around over 350 vehicles and a similar number of drivers across the area (in addition to own fleet and own drivers).
- Working with key stakeholders to deliver results in safety and cost, using integrated cost reporting, tracking and transformational analytics.
- Lead and champion Tarmac goal of zero harm goal
- Develop and lead a ‘proud driver’ culture, making them an integral part of Tarmac and be industry-leading in the utilisation of research and expertise in driver behaviour.
- Lead and direct supply chain optimisation and innovation through planning, procurement and logistics collaboration
- Focus on improvements in business results and moving forward opportunities, seizing chances to increase productivity, reduce cost, improve profit and revenues
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should be able to evidence previous experience working as an Area or Regional Transport Manager gained within transport or fleet environment.
- Strong, proven people management and coaching skills.
- Ability to manage contracts and contractors.
- Ability to manage a team of professional to achieve and area strategy which is aligned to the Regional and National strategy.
- A track record of contract negotiations.
- Knowledge of financial reporting and process awareness.
- Proven experience in managing road health and safety.
- Ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.
- Ability to challenge on a process and behavioural level.
