Assistant Ship Manager

We are currently looking for an Assistant Ship Manager to join our friendly team in Chichester.

Role Responsibility
The Assistant Ship Manager’s primary responsibility is to provide support to the Ship Manager’s and Fleet Technical Assistant with the following responsibilities and duties:
- Assisting Ship Managers with maintaining all vessels structure, systems and equipment to the requirements of the Classification Societies and the MCA.
- Support the preparation of high-quality repair and maintenance specifications, evaluation of quotations and selection and effective management of contractors.
- Monitor the procurement and management of all spares to ensure the timely execution of repairs and to minimise vessel downtime.
- Assist with management of all stock spares and logistics.
- Promote the prompt reporting and rectification of breakdowns and damages.
- Liaise with Marine Operations team to assist in the arrangement of repairs, maintenance, and surveys to optimise vessel utilisation.
- Engage in evaluating and managing vessel and system modifications.
- Monitor oil analysis reports and initiate appropriate action.
- As required by the Marine Fleet Manager and in liaison with the Marine Safety team to assist with the prompt attention to all health and safety issues raised by the vessels and other members of Marine Administration.
In conjunction with vessel Chief Engineers, the effective management of consumable stores.
- Review vessel weekly reports and liaise with the appropriate Ship Manager as required.
- As required attend vessels during dry docking and alongside repairs to assist the respective Ship Manager and Marine Safety Superintendent.
- In conjunction with Ship Managers and the Fleet Technical Assistant maintain the effective management of AMOS planned maintenance system and all supporting functions.
- Review and action Amos change requests, liaising with Ship Managers as required.
The Ideal Candidate
Previous Assistant Ship Manager experience or entrants to the role should typically have a foundation level qualification (level 5) and experience in a maritime engineering discipline, preferably as a Second Engineer Officer or Electro-Technical Officer with equivalent experience.
Ideally, they will hold a Second Engineers Unlimited Certificate of Competency. However, suitable candidates may also have a background in ship-repair, marine classification societies or administrations and be holders of an alternative level of competence.
