We’re looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Bid Writer for a hybrid role based in Moutsorrel and working from home. 

In this role, you’ll contribute to the performance of our contracting business through the production of client-facing documents such as quality submissions, pre-qualification questionnaires, capability statements and case studies either individually or as part of a small team. The successful candidate will also assist in creation of knowledge and best practice library. The role reports to the Senior Proposals Engineer and is part of a team of 10.

Role Responsibility

In this role of Bid Writer you will be responsible for a number of tasks including: 

  • Creating business winning documentation that accurately reflects the customer requirements and Tarmac’s offer on own initiative in a pressured deadline driven environment
  • Researching clients and political drivers to gather a thorough understanding of their individual requirements and develop appropriate ‘win themes’
  • Professionally tailoring PQQ and tender deliverables provided by others to the requirements of the customer by use of systematic bid process
  • Planning key stages of individual tender projects and allocate appropriate deadlines with follow ups to ensure these deadlines are adhered to both within and outside the tender department
  • Gathering technical data from internal departments and operational teams such as ICT, HR, business development and marketing, and finance and interpret this into layman’s terms to construct compelling and readable text ensuring that a bespoke solution is offered to the customer
  • Maintaining Tarmac branding guidance, author content, commission relevant graphics and edit text produced by other internal departments, checking drafts for readability, clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and formatting
  • Reviewing successful and unsuccessful submissions, feedback and lessons learned to promote continuous improvement.
  • Looking after the live work winning efforts with our potential clients e.g. Tier 1 contractors, National Highways, Local Authorities

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in the role of Bid Writer you will be degree qualified or possess an equivalent educational level and in addition, you should have:

  • Experience of a working in a busy, continually pressured deadline driven working environment is essential as the role demands the ability to handle multiple submissions simultaneously with key task identification and prioritisation
  • Experience of engineering, highway maintenance and construction or a related sector of the construction industry would be advantageous
  • Practical experience of creating professional documentation to a very high standard with particular focus on accuracy and care – spelling and grammar need to be of a particularly high standard
  • Ability to establish and understand Client requirements
  • Ability to translate operational information into comprehensive submissions supporting tenders
  • Use of industry standard software, including MS Word, Excel and Adobe products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and to engage and influence at all levels
  • The role involves travel across the UK
