Business Manager (Quarries)

Tendley Quarries Limited are recruiting a Business Manager (Quarries) to manage the operational and commercial aspects of Tendley Asphalt Plant (Brigham), Eskett Quarry (Copeland) and Peel Place Quarry (Holmrook) near Cockermouth in Cumbria. This key role will develop and lead strategies to increase our presence and coverage in the market and consider all opportunities to develop our products and services with a focus on growth and high value sales that deliver the businesses EBIT % aspirations. You will also raise the Tendley brand to achieve allocated sales revenue/margin, budgets, and targets.

Role Responsibility

The role of Business Manager (Quarries) will manage the business to deliver the budgeted income/contribution levels through managed volume, price and cost control whilst maintaining process/administrative excellence. As well as identifying strategic opportunities and potential acquisitions you will provide leadership to your team reporting into the board of Directors on P&L.

The role of Business Manager (Quarries) will also be responsible for:

  • Identifying and recommending opportunities for business development through both organic growth and acquisition in addition to allocating major CAPEX spend in order to drive business optimisation
  • Driving decarbonisation within your business area
  • Ensuring Health and Safety across the business is a priority and that all required Safety Management systems are in place
  • Leadership and vision for the sustainable growth of the business
  • Driving and managing sales, operational and logistic targets and KPIs including setting market, sales and pricing strategies that drive business performance
  • Developing and leading strategic projects and attaining board approval
  • Ensuring that CAPEX and major projects are delivered within the defined quality, time and budget parameters
  • Representing the business internally and externally and build strategic relationships cross functionally and with key partners/suppliers including customers, clients and representatives from local authority/government as well as within the local community
  • Leading your team and driving continuous improvement by coaching sales managers to deliver sales performance within our sales leadership processes
  • Monthly and annual reporting of regional business performance

 

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Business Manager (Quarries) will have operational knowledge and experience of successfully leading teams within the aggregates and asphalt manufacturing environment. You will also possess experience in budgeting, forecasting and managing financial reviews as well as commercial experience developing and maintaining relationships with fixed outlet and 3rd party customers.

Suitable candidates for the role of Business Manager (Quarries) will also have:

  • Exceptional knowledge of SHE requirements, processes and ability to drive an effective SHE culture
  • Proven experience and competence of delivering capital projects
  • Knowledge of asset management processes including maintenance
  • Proven track record in delivering financial and Health and Safety performance targets and developing talented individuals
  • Proven expertise in developing and executing business strategies through multiple teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop relationships internally and externally
  • Understanding Quarry Regulations 1999 enabling a Regulation 8.1(d) appointment
  • Proven ability to influence successfully
  • Proven resilience with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology
  • NVQ L5 or industry linked qualification advantageous
