Cement Plant Manager

We are currently looking for a Cement Plant Manager to join our Cement & Lime Business Unit based at Buxton Cement Plant, Derbyshire. Here at Tarmac, we are working hard to create a dynamic and inclusive environment and it’s important that our people come from a variety of different backgrounds.
Role Responsibility
As the Cement Plant Manager, you will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance and direction for plant operations (including Packing Plant Operations) and ensuring sustainable performance aligned with Business objectives, values and behaviours, while delivering on Business commitments.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Operating a safe Plant (including the Packing Plant Facility), continuously driving towards sustaining a positive safety and health culture.
- Develop a long term vision for the plant.
- Provide exemplary leadership, setting demanding standards and driving high performance from the team.
- Build a customer focused performance culture within the business and a climate to inspire the team to achieve world class performance and reliability.
- Ensure that the production commitments in terms of volume, deadlines and product conformity are met.
- Ensure the plant complies with UK legislation, with specific regard to health & safety, environmental and employment laws.
- Be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Plant performance plan (PPP), organisation and people plan and budget to achieve identified improvements.
- Represent the company with external bodies and authorities and develop progressive relationships with local stakeholders including the social, business and environmental community.
- Build a high level of trust and cooperation with local sales and logistics management.
- Working closely with the Leaders of the Tunstead Lime and Stone Business, to build collaborative relationships across the site.
- Ensure product quality meets our agreed targets and ensure the plant capability is sustained through optimisation of the process.
- Manage the operating and capital budgets, maintaining a vigilant approach to reducing costs.
- Ensure proper management and maintenance of the plant’s physical assets.
- Lead and manage change programmes with clear goals, drive and engagement.
- Drive for continuous improvement.
- Ensure positive working relations with employees and their representatives within the plant (including Trade Unions)
- Ensure good relations with local stakeholders including local authorities, suppliers and customers.
- Improve competencies/capabilities on-site at all levels.
- Develop the Plant leadership team through coaching.
- Ensure the teams are trained to the required level.
- Performance Management of teams.
- Embed the Plant Operating Model.
The Ideal Candidate
As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate previous Senior Management experience gained within a Cement Industry.
As well as possess a good technical knowledge of cement chemistry and manufacturing, quarry operations, and raw materials and maintenance management including knowledge of ISO Standards and certification process.
Key to your success will be your exceptional communication skills. As an influential and persuasive leader, you will have a successful track record in managing, developing, motivating and inspiring both direct reports and people in your wider organisation to cultivate strong, engaged and competent teams.
Specific Requirements;
- Financial management and budget control
- BA/BEng in engineering, sciences or business preferred, MBA a plus.
- Must understand engineering and business principles.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office and Google applications.
