Are you an experienced engineering professional looking to take the next step into a senior operational leadership role? Hydro International, part of CRH, is seeking a Deputy Operations Manager to support the successful delivery of engineering projects and wastewater services operations across the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the Area Manager, leading projects, developing teams, and driving operational performance within a business that plays a vital role in the UK's water infrastructure sector.

What You'll Be Doing

As Deputy Operations Manager, you will act as the second-in-command to the Area Manager, helping to oversee daily operations while ensuring engineering projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting and deputising for the Area Manager when required
• Leading the planning, coordination and delivery of engineering projects and repair activities
• Driving operational performance, resource utilisation and effective scheduling of engineering teams
• Managing project budgets, costs and profitability to ensure commercial success
• Providing leadership, coaching and development opportunities for operational and engineering teams
• Conducting site visits, surveys and estimates, while preparing customer quotations
• Managing contractual obligations and providing technical guidance across projects
• Producing project reports, programme plans and Gantt charts to monitor delivery
• Collaborating with internal stakeholders to support continuous improvement initiatives
• Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental standards
• Building strong customer relationships and supporting business growth through a consultative approach

What We Are Looking For

We're looking for a proactive and commercially aware leader who combines strong engineering expertise with excellent people management and project delivery skills. You'll be comfortable managing multiple priorities and motivating teams to achieve outstanding results

To succeed in this role, you'll ideally have:

• An engineering qualification at Degree, HND level, equivalent, or significant relevant industry experience
• Proven experience managing engineering projects from inception through to completion
• Experience within the water, wastewater or environmental sector
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities
• Knowledge of industrial mechanical installation and maintenance
• Experience delivering projects against challenging deadlines and budgets
• Understanding of NEC3 contracts
• Excellent communication, customer service and organisational skills
• Strong IT skills with experience using project planning and reporting tools
• A practical, solution-focused approach and strong commercial acumen

Desirable experience includes Confined Space Entry certification, Manual Handling qualifications and knowledge of wastewater screening equipment and associated processes.

You'll also need a full UK driving licence, be willing to travel to operational sites, participate in an emergency call-out rota and undertake occasional overnight stays when required.
