Distribution Manager

We are currently recruiting for a Distribution Manager to join our fantastic team based in Snodland.

Role Responsibility

Within this role you will directly manage Distribution Supervisors, Planning Supervisors and their teams of Customer Services Coordinators and Planners to drive performance, developing a multi skilled approach and a successful culture.

Working closely with our network of haulage drivers, internal stakeholders and external suppliers, the distribution team will ensure our products are delivered to the right place at the right time and our customer receive a high level of customer service experience. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support the effective implementation of the Logistics strategy
  • To actively identify and implement cost saving opportunities within the distribution department
  • Manage and motivate staff; review and assess performance; build employee capability, supporting professional development and enable employees to optimise contribution to the business
  • Review and recommend the most cost-effective method of scheduling of vehicles to meet customer needs
  • Provide robust customer service, clearly understanding the differentiation between compliance and service
  • Encourage the team to create positive relationships with the wider business
  • Randomly sample members of the team on a regularly basis to evaluate their understanding of situations and the appropriate remedial action to resolve the matter
  • Responsible for optimising the distribution schedule to ensure maximum productivity of our base fleet at the lowest possible hire cost and ensuring ‘on time/in full’ delivery results
  • Regularly review the agreed SLAs and KPIs to evaluate effectiveness, adjusting as required
  • Provide monthly key metrics and performance rating reports, creating solutions to address any identified underperformance or issues to drive business improvement
  • Deliver day to day fulfilment and scheduling process, with effective communications with transport, commercial and operational management teams
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships understanding their needs and they can be positively impacted by the distribution team
  • Keep all systems and processes compliant with the relevant company and statutory requirements and guidelines
  • Promote the nationally agreed best practice processes and systems, ensuring team compliance, contributing to further development and improvement at all opportunities
  • Continually meet or exceed budget and financial performance through effective management and cost control
  • Actively contribute to business optimization initiatives, providing tangible workable solutions to improve the business and its practices

  • Planning and organisation, anticipating obstacles and implementing solutions
