We are currently recruiting for an Environmental Graduate to join our Cement, Lime and Packed Products Team at our Tunstead site, close to Buxton in Derbyshire. The role is easily commutable from Buxton, Macclesfield, Stockport, Dronfield, Manchester, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Leek, Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

As part of the UK and Ireland Sustainability team, you as an Environmental Graduate will participate in our 2 year graduate scheme, helping you to make decisions to deliver business impact, present powerfully, communicate effectively and many more key skills. This means that you will be exposed to many different areas across the business, where you will be able to apply the knowledge you gain towards achieving your professional membership of IEMA – Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment or another similar professional body. You will play an important role in keeping UK infrastructure moving. An exciting role where you can see the output of your hard work all around you (quite literally!)​

Key focus of Environmental Graduate position, not exhaustive:

  • Learn about environmental management, gaining a detailed understanding via a dedicated Tarmac development programme and the CRH international programme
  • As a key member of the environmental and sustainability team, you will have responsibility for measuring and reporting performance, providing industry leading guidance to our business and customers
  • Develop a practical understanding of the environmental management systems/its permits and other legally binding activities
  • Learn about the legal and internal company standards that are important to maintaining our Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental standards
  • Become competent to participate and ultimately conduct internal environmental and energy audits
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our environmental performance looking at emissions and CO2 data
  • Whilst your 2 years will primarily be based from one location, you will then be expected to gain valuable experience in locations across our UK and Ireland Cluster or participate in an exciting international assignment
  • Gain knowledge, understanding and practical application of all safety policies, procedures and practices and be active in leading and driving environmental and sustainability standards and improvements
  • Taking pride in all work completed and being determined to succeed​!

Key Operational Colleagues you will liaise with in this role of Environmental Graduate:

  • Environmental & Sustainability Team – Procurement Team - Site Managers - Business Managers – Health, Safety & Environmental teams - Area Operations teams – HR Area Teams – Land & Natural Resources - Industry Bodies – Customers

ESSENTIAL – you must hold a full UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 points as you will have access to a company vehicle for this role in visiting other sites

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful for this role the ideal candidate for the position of Environmental Graduate will have, or be able to demonstrate:

ESSENTIAL Qualification

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Willing to work in different locations across UK and Ireland (and international assignments in the future)

DESIRABLE Skills

  • Organisational, Communication and Analytical skills
  • Passionate about working safely
  • Motivated and loves a challenge
  • Enthusiastic about starting a career in the construction manufacturing and production industry!
