Are you a passionate and dynamic Estimator looking for your next role?  

We are currently recruiting for an Estimator to join our National Road Planing (NRP) teams working on National Highways, Local Authority and Private Industrial Commercial projects.  This role will be based from our offices in the Lincoln area and you will be required to travel across the UK in support of national projects and works requirements. The role is easily accessible from Lincoln, Newark-on-Trent, Nottingham, Mansfield, Louth, Worksop, Sheffield, Doncaster, Scunthorpe, Chesterfield, Sleaford and the surrounding areas.

We would be open to applications from candidates living elsewhere in the UK if they meet with the experience required, due to this being a hybrid working role, but must be willing to travel to the Lincoln offices on a regular basis. These areas could potentially be Birmingham, Leicester, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Derby, Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent, Burton-on-Trent, Peterborough.

Role Responsibility

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you as the Estimator will oversee the pricing of work and the management of the tendering process across your operational area of works. Securing work packages in line with budgetary and business strategies.

Responsibilities of the role (not exhaustive):

  • Work closely with the Contracts Manager and contracting management team
  • Effective handovers and liaise with Operations function to monitor progress of contracts secured and understand history of relationship with clients
  • Initiate tendering process and obtain subcontract prices
  • Negotiate contracts, taking an overview looking for commercial opportunity secure budgeted turnover and volume at chosen margin
  • Undertake appraisal of completed tenders
  • Ensure all enquiries are correctly dealt with in a timely progression of the project
  • Maintain and develop customer relationships and optimising sustainable financial contribution within set targets and in accordance with regional targets and company policy, process and procedure
  • Ensure full compliance with safety and business policies, procedures and statutory bodies
  • Manage relationships with both our internal customers and external customers
  • Secure and develop new business opportunities in the growth of Tarmac NRP along with bid strategies

In the role you will be in liaison with stakeholders across the business, ranging from – General Managers – Commercial Managers – Quantity Surveyors – Accounts – Production – Technical – Distribution – Customer Services - HR

A car is available with this role and has the flexibility of Hybrid working

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role of Estimator, you as the ideal candidate will have experience in a similar position within the highways or heavy engineering sector. You will also be able to demonstrate proven experience working within a global company or a similar environment as an Estimator as well as possess exemplary account management and communication skills.

Specific Requirements:

  • A Degree Higher Education Achievement (HNC/HND Level) in a role related discipline would prove highly beneficial; although not essential as QBE (Qualified by Experience) is a key element in this role
  • IOSH
  • Member of RICS or ICES

Experience of:

  • Surfacing and civil engineering procedures
  • Method of measurement and conditions of contract
  • Specification requirements
  • Contract, specifications, method of measurement
