Firewall Engineer

We are currently looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Firewall Engineer to join our IT team based in Solihull, West Midlands on a 10 month Fixed Term Contract based flexibly in the UK.

This is a pivotal role in ensuring the security and integrity of our network infrastructure.   Working alongside internal teams and hosting partners you'll manage firewall changes that safeguard against unauthorised access and cyber threats.  The role contributes directly to the continuous protection of our network and business operations

 

Role Responsibility

In this role you'll:

  • Maintain firewall solution standards to ensure network security and protect against unauthorised access.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, architecture, and project teams to design and document firewall changes.
  • Ensure all firewall changes are managed through to implementation by the managed service provider.
  • Assess proposed firewall code changes supplied by vendors.
  • Perform firewall rule reviews to maintain an optimised and secure network environment.
  • Review and enhance firewall change process / procedures.
  • Manage and troubleshoot a variety of network issues by working with internal resources and third-party managed service providers.
  • Staying up to date with the latest security trends, vulnerabilities, and best practices to proactively address emerging threats.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the Change Management process
  • Vendor liaison to support service delivery to agreed SLAs 
  • Support the incident root cause analysis process. 
  • Support continuous service improvement. 
  • Ensure compliance with Internal control processes and procedures.
 

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role you'll need:

  • Relevant Cisco and Palo Alto qualifications, (knowledge of Azure is also desirable).
  • Demonstrable experience working in a large corporate network
  • To be familiar with change management processes
  • Experience of cloud security and virtualised networks would be beneficial but not essential.
  • To be an effective communicator to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • To support innovative thinking
  • To be adept at defining & building solutions from business requirements
  • Creative design and rigorous implementation skills
  • Problem analysis and solving skills.
  • To be adept at producing high quality documentation.
  • Experience at Interacting with third party hosting providers.
