General Operative

We are currently looking for a General Operative to join our friendly team based at our Tarmac Broom South Sand and Gravel Quarry, SG18 9NN. The site is commutable from Bedford, Cambridge, Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.

Tarmac encourages people from outside the industry with transferrable skills to apply as full Training will be provided.

Role Responsibility

The successful General Operative will specifically focus on operational tasks including:

• Operation of plant and machinery (training to be provided)
• Cleaning of spillages
• Learning of tarmac systems
• Day to day maintenance, general house keeping
• Maintenance and driving a culture of zero harm and behavioural safety
• Compliance and awareness Health and Safety measures around the site

The Ideal Candidate

As part of an operational team, you as a General Operative will be able to demonstrate proven experience of working within a similar environment or transferable skills. Ideally you will also:

• Have knowledge of heavy industry and ideally of aggregates; although product knowledge is not essential
• Be flexible and self-motivated to succeed
• Able to work as part of an effective team and motivate others
• Have knowledge of Risk Assessments
• Be compliant and engage with company policies, targets, goals and standards
• IT literate

If you have experience as a General Operative from a similar industry we will support you with training.
