Geotechnical Manager - North & Scotland

We are currently looking for a Geotechnical Manager to join our team in the North and Scotland region, so a base location that can cover this region is flexible.

Role Responsibility
This exciting opportunity will require you to work autonomously and take responsibility for dealing with challenging geotechnical issues within operational areas. Therefore, to succeed you’ll need a comprehensive knowledge and expertise in all aspects of quarrying, mineral extraction and open pit working.
What will I be responsible for?
- Providing specialist operational geotechnical advice and coaching to ensure quarries are developed in a manner that is operationally safe and cost effective
- Conducting inspections of quarry excavations and tips as per the quarry Inspection Scheme
- Conducting inspections on closed units and non-quarry sites and undertaking or commissioning discontinuity surveys and collection of other types of technical field data
- Carrying out and providing follow-up to Regulation 32 Appraisals on operational sites
- Designing excavations and tips for quarry development purposes where these require geotechnical analysis and assessment
- Undertaking Regulation 33 Geotechnical Assessments of the quarry excavations and tips as well as periodic Reviews as per Regulation 34
- Providing ad hoc geotechnical services to the operational sites as required
- Managing geotechnical outsourcing as required
- Providing training and inductions into geotechnical management to Quarry Managers and other key operational staff
- Supporting Tarmac’s Quarry Managers in the maintenance and application of a Geotechnical Management System (the Site Geotechnical Folder)
- Acting as the lead participant in Annual Geotechnical Audits of the Site Geotechnical Folder and site geotechnical procedures
- Working with the Head of Technical Services to provide the business with up-to-date operating standards and policies relating to the geotechnical management of Tarmac’s quarries
The Ideal Candidate
To be considered suitable you must satisfy the requirements of a Geotechnical Specialist as defined by the Quarries Regulations 1999. This means you must have:
Professional status either as a Charted Engineer or Chartered Geologist; and possess a minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in soil mechanics, rock mechanics or excavation engineering. You should also be able to demonstrate competency in performing geotechnical analyses to determine the hazard and risk arising from the excavation or tip being assessed.
