Health, Safety & Wellbeing Apprentice
Job Introduction
You may have never considered a career in Health and Safety, but at Tarmac our Health and Safety team are critical to the day-to-day operation of our business. Our number one priority is to ensure our people work safe and go home safe, and as an Health Safety & Wellbeing Apprentice in our HSE team you’ll build an underpinning knowledge of legislation, a business network and become a valued voice in our business, challenging us to continuously improve. Each day will be varied and throughout your programme you’ll spend time with the different operational teams to develop a rounded understanding of our approach to a safe working environment.
The role will be partly office based and partly site-based, providing advice and support to others on how to work without harming themselves or others. You could be working at a quarry, concrete, asphalt, cement or Building Products site or within the contracting business.
Role Responsibility
Main activities may include:

Supporting the H&S (Health and Safety) function to promote the company H&S vision, objectives and underpinning strategy.

Working on multiple projects to support changes to policy and practices .

Apply the codes of ethics; working within the regulations of professional competence and code of conduct as defined by our safety management processes.

Designing and writing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Delivering safety briefings on sites and safety meetings; developing, reviewing and checking on the implementation of our safe systems of work.

Building relationships with various regulators (Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency).

Investigating and reporting on accidents and near hits on sites .

Completing health and safety audits and identifying action plans.

- GCSEs (or equivalent), A-C or numbered equivalent (9-4) including English and Maths.
