Highway Maintenance Apprentice

Role Responsibility

The role of Highways Maintenance Apprentice will be reporting to the Supervisor and form part of the team covering the Walsall Highways contract working throughout London.  

  • The Highways Maintenance Apprentice will work on rural and urban roads (not including motorways) to repair damaged surfaces, using hand and power tools and pedestrian plant machinery.  

  • Working in a team, you will repair potholes, complete surface work, replace kerbs, installing street iron works and much more! 

  • In addition, you will be trained to drive a HGV vehicle to complete winter gritting services.  A full driving license will be required in this role prior to commencing the scheme 

  • You will be working in all weather conditions and will need a disciplined approach to your work  

  • Health and Safety will be key in this role and a safety conscious mindset is a must 

  • And on completion of the Apprenticeship scheme you will have opportunity to to earn overtime and participate in standby/call out arrangements to top up your competitive salary.   

The Ideal Candidate

As our ideal Highways Maintenance Apprentice, you will need to be enthusiastic, well organised, and self-motivated.  You will have 3 GCSE’s including English and Maths at Grade C or above and a holder of a full UK Driving License. Please note you must be at least 18 years of age to apply for this role.  

Please note, completion of the apprenticeship will include college attendance which may be in block release or day release therefore travel and time away may be required.
