Highways Ganger

We are currently recruiting for a Highways Ganger to join our Highways team working on the Halton and Warrington Highways project of works.  The role is based from our Tarmac Halton and Warrington site, in Cheshire and is easily commutable from Warrington, Liverpool, Bootle, Wallasey, West Kirkby, Birkenhead, Stockport, Salford, Ellesmere Port, Widnes, Runcorn, Halewood, Bolton, Wigan, St Helens, Northwich, Knutsford, Lymm, Chester, Manchester, Stockport and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

As the Highways Ganger you will be instrumental in the successful delivery of kerbing, paving, drainage and patching works within the Boroughs of Halton and Warrington by Tarmac along with our sub-contractors. As well as the below, you will provide guidance on highways management matters to your colleagues at Tarmac #worksafe #homesafe

Other responsibilities for this role of Highways Ganger will include:

  • Support the planning, programming and delivery of our programme of works
  • Work with crews to undertake works orders in a planned fashion and to the highest quality
  • Have a keen eye for detail and report Safety Observations on our Tarmac reporting system 
  • Immerse yourself in our Winter Maintenance Programme
  • Carry out pre-start checks on each machine you are operating (including hired-in plant)
  • Work to your gangs targets and minimise costs to maximise profitability and offer any alternative methods of working 
  • Ensure all plant is safely and securely stored in the designated areas at the end of your shift
  • Be proactive and update your personal training plan with your line manager at your regular review sessions
  • Achievement of Company and Contractual KPI’s and year-on-year improvement of Contract/Scheme KPI’s
  • H & S – Zero accidents and environmental incidents
  • Ensure all Health and Safety standards are being adhered too across all works alongside collaborating, promoting and developing Health, Safety and wellbeing innovations

You must be able to work overtime to co-cover out of hours emergency call out and winter maintenance duties as directed

We are open to individual applications or from established Gangs/Teams

This role does not come with your own personal vehicle, you will drive a 'gang' vehicle that is kept at depot

The Ideal Candidate

It is preferred that the successful candidate for the role of Highways Ganger will have the following:

ESSENTIAL

  • LGV/HGV licence – this is ESSENTIAL for the role and we will not consider applications without this licence so please make this evident on your application
  • NRSWA card
  • Experience in construction and highways maintenance works
  • A valid UK full manual car driving licence – no more than 6 points

DESERIABLE

  • Relevant machine operator competency certificates
  • Gritting driver experience would prove highly advantageous
