Geology Graduate

Job Introduction

We're looking for a Geology Graduate to join our Land and Natural Resources Team. You'll help ensure our mineral assets are identified; developed and managed responsibly for the benefit of our business, local people, biodiversity and the communities in which we operate. You'll play a key role in the long-term sustainability of our business and meeting the needs of the UK's future infrastructure growth.

Role Responsibility

Activities may include:

  • Working in close liaison with the Head of Technical Services, Quarry Design and Geotechnical Managers, to meet regional and national objectives in relation to mineral development. ​

  • ​Preparing quarry designs and earthmoving schemes including review of specialist consultant reports.​

  • Engaging effectively with operational teams at quarry sites and managing a wide range of stakeholder relationships.

  • Working collaboratively on the delivery of key projects & initiatives to realise business enhancements.

  • Assisting with planning and undertaking, safe and effective exploratory fieldwork whilst gaining skills in safety and contractor management. ​

  • Gaining a clear understanding of the application of geological principles to business, including compliance with geological & geotechnical policies and standards. 

  • ​Engaging with planning consents, relevant permits, and applications for mineral working.

  • Preparing written geological reports & plans and providing effective presentations. ​

  • Seeking opportunities for best practice and enhancing the sustainable financial return from Tarmacs mineral assets.​

  • Interacting and assisting with the development of Tarmac’s GIS and data management systems.

  • Developing competence towards Chartered Status & considering opportunities to pursue specialisation / development in the role via formal training and a structured development plan.

  • Exploring career pathways within the Land & Natural Resources Team and wider business via secondments and project teams.  

​Whilst you’re learning on the job, you’ll attend our Graduate core Skills Development Programme designed to expand your business knowledge, strengthen core skills and offer networking opportunities with other graduates and key stakeholders across the Tarmac business in order to successfully transition into your destination role​.

Qualifications (heavily desirable)​:

  • Educated to Geological Degree Level or Postgraduate [e.g. Geotechnical / Mining Engineering / Hydrogeology].​
