We are currently recruiting for a Learning and Development Advisor – Early Careers in our Learning and Development team to join us at our Head Offices in Abergavenny. Due to the nature of the role, we are open to applications from candidates who live in; or can commute from some of the following areas: Newport, Cardiff, Swansea, Penarth, Barry, Porthcawl, Neath, Usk, Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, Llanfoist, Bristol, Chepstow, Pontypridd.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Learning & Development Manager, the Learning the Development Advisor - Early Careers will help deliver the Learning & Development strategy by creating, leading and launching the Early In Career Programme of Work Experience, Student, Graduate and Apprenticeship opportunities across the business.  This will be done by identification and analysis of training needs, the design, build and delivery of competency based training courses and developing strong relationships with the educational institutions to ensure all delegates fulfil their student and job role requirements.

We are looking for an experienced Learning & Development Advisor who have prior experience in Learning & Development within the Early Careers spectrum and you will be looking to develop our colleagues early on in their careers to be the best they can be.

On a day-to-day basis, the duties & responsibilities of the Learning and Development Advisor - Early Careers will include (not exhaustive)

  • Helping shape and deliver the Learning & Development Strategy
  • To work in partnership with managers and the HR Coordinator to lead on Early In Career recruitment activities – this will include the attendance of Careers Fairs and help shape and support interviews, recruitment activities and our selection processes
  • Undertaking, identifying & analysing training needs across the Early In Career delegate population
  • Creating annual Training Plans by Early In Career Programme; assigning and managing the budget 
  • Liaising with educational institutions involved in the Early In Career Programme to provide tripartite support, structure and a framework to aid learning, development and successes
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders to develop an action plan to deliver Griffiths Future Generation commitments
  • Coaching & supporting line managers to develop high performing teams and track learning effectiveness
  • To support process improvements, efficiencies and compliance within the L&D Team and wider business

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a Learning and Development Advisor - Early Careers who is in receipt of the following:

  • Practical experience of leading or facilitating Early In Career strategies and programmes
  • An understanding of organisational learning and development principles and practices
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop strong trusting relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to work at pace and adapt to changing priorities
  • Proactivity and drive with a strong desire to succeed and improve
  • You will be required to use your car when required to travel to various Alun Griffiths’ sites; of which business mileage will be paid
  • Furthermore, if you have experience in recruitment and selection, apprentice levy, budget management and have experience working for a Civil Engineering contractor, this would be a benefit
