Maintenance Engineer

We are currently looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join our friendly team based at our Tunstead Cement Plant in Buxton. Here at Tarmac, we are working hard to create a dynamic and inclusive environment and it’s important that our people come from a variety of different backgrounds.
Role Responsibility
Reporting directly to the Packing Plant Manager the successful applicant will ensure that the Packing Plant maintains its performance and supplies our customers with packed product. Working within the packing plant team and maintaining a good relationship with the cement plant maintenance team.
Key Tasks
- Ensure in-depth knowledge of the condition of all packing plant equipment on a continuous
- basis, develop & maintain a preventive maintenance schedule.
- Manage inspections of all packing plant equipment and initiate work orders based on
- inspection results, including safety checks. Perform analysis and define priorities for each
- action.
- Monitor and co-ordinate condition predictors, for all critical equipment. Ensure all KPI’s are
- monitored & annual targets are met.
- Set new challenging KPI’s alongside production team.
- Based on the analysis of failures and problems, recommend and undertake corrective actions
- (Root Cause Analysis).
- Proposes economic ways to extend the life of plant equipment
- Manage Safety inspection activities and request corrective action for Safety issues
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental Standards for the whole team,
- including contractor management, analyse Risk Assessments to ensure they are adequate.
- Ensure that housekeeping of plant is according to standard.
- Preparation and delivery of appropriate training training/development to the Maintenance
- Team.
- Manage and develop 5 technicians with a view to multi-skill them.
- Responsible for maintaining an adequate workforce during peak times and two annual
- shutdowns, requesting additional internal support or contractors as required.
- Create a robust shutdown plan & manage all works in a controlled and safe manner.
- Responsible for cost/budgetary control and cost reporting for packing plant maintenance.
- Build key relationships with suppliers & OEM’s, other Packing Plant’s & relevant CP personnel.
- Communicate with other Packing Plants in the network to ensure best practise is shared.
- Conduct a weekly cross functional Plant Overview/Maintenance Meeting ensuring key roles are
- present.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:
Qualifications:
- Time served apprentice Electrical/Mechanical Engineering craft
- HND Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (preferred), or equivalent experience
- Engineering degree (advantageous), or willingness to undertake this qualification or similar (essential)
Experience:
- Proven Electrical/Mechanical experience in cement or other related continuous process industry
- Good knowledge of the cement manufacturing process or other related continuous process heavy industry
- Technical knowledge of preventive, predictive and systematic maintenance
- Organise and carry out preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs and modifications to plant to include shutdown work and planning
- Process Control & Instrumentation system operation & maintenance (Temperature, Pressure, Weight and Levels)
- Experience of cost control, budgeting and cost reporting
- Management/supervisory experience
- Competent in Root Cause Analysis
- Experience in Purchasing & CMMS system SAP MM & SAP PM
Skills and Knowledge:
- High level of competence in plant maintenance
- PLC Experience (Siemens S7) (desired)
- Variable speed drives
- Knowledge of electro-pneumatic systems
- Knowledge and understanding of health, safety & environmental issues
- Knowledge of equipment isolation procedures
- IT literate
- Must have the ability to understand, collate, organise and analyse data to understand cause and effects relationship
- Willingness and ability to undertake technical call out support
- Maintain positive relationships with packing plant and cross-functional personnel, whilst being a site “expert” in maintenance related issues.
