Maintenance Manager

We are currently looking for a Maintenance Manager to join and lead our friendly team based from one of our plants situated centrally between Birmingham, Solihull, Banbury and Coventry, this role will be to work on our HS2 project and will cover 7 sites within a short travel from your base site. 

The sites are easily accessible via most major road networks, based in the heart of the Midlands and is commutable from Birmingham, Coventry, Kenilworth, Nuneaton, Redditch, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Banbury and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

The Maintenance Manager will work closely with the management team for the development and delivery of the strategic engineering and maintenance plan throughout the operational production. You will lead all maintenance and engineering activity, have the ability to problem solve, innovate, and drive plant performance to high levels. You will lead, coach and mentor your team ensuring that the department exceeds expected levels of performance, provides high plant availability and excellent levels of support for the operational teams.

You will oversee all maintenance and engineering activity including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), defect and risk management, breakdowns, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and project engineering work. Your responsibilities as the Maintenance Manager will include:

  • Have a proven track record of successful people management, management of maintenance and engineering operations, delivering large scale CAPEX projects and managing large budgets
  • Promoting the maintenance management system, ensuring the application of maintenance procedures, methods and best practices
  • Manage the Maintenance and Engineering department in achieving its budget targets through the efficient use of materials and replacement parts
  • Developing and improving the knowledge and skills of all engineers, fitters and apprentices
  • Maintaining Health and Safety rules and regulations and ensure all Safe Systems of Work are signed off and complied with leading towards a target of zero harm for personnel and contractors
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of maintenance staff, optimising engagement, and overall team performance
  • Lead in resolving complex technical issues or failures as they arise whether directly or by operational teams
  • Continuous review of plant availability, and department performance, Identifying gaps, root causes and subsequent improvement activity
  • Manage and develop third party relationships, ensuring effective service contracts are in place and demonstrate best value
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders

You will be required to provide flexibility to work outside of core hours to facilitate unplanned breakdowns, a vehicle is provided with this role so you must have a FULL UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 points

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant in the role of Maintenance Manager will be instrumental in the future development and support of the engineering culture to achieve the benefits available through continuous improvement strategy. You will have experience as an Engineering Manager / Maintenance Manager within a similar heavy manufacturing industry and line management experience will be essential.

Maintenance Manager - Qualifications/Requirements/Capabilities:

  • ESSENTIAL - HNC/HND in a role related discipline along with a recognised apprenticeship, BEng or MEng would prove highly beneficial
  • ESSENTIAL - Mechanical, Pneumatic and Hydraulic systems knowledge, with an understanding of electrical systems
  • Challenge people, hold them accountable for job completion and quality of completion
  • Computer literate - familiarity with computer software (word, excel, etc)
  • Good communication skills, with a positive, proactive can - do attitude to your team and others
  • Continuous Improvement techniques, Lean methodology, Six Sigma and FMEA
  • Root Cause Analysis investigative methods
  • Project Management experience
