Major Projects Manager - Southwest and Wales

We are currently looking for a Major Projects Manager – Southwest and Wales to join our Commercial Management team in the Southwest and Wales region to lead and manage key client relationships and proactively manage key projects within the region driving significant value to the overall business. This is a vital role looking at both securing key projects and gaining insight from the market for the business to ensure that all opportunities are maximised. Leading the coordination and development of bid submissions to secure work on major projects that increase revenue and profit.

This is a regional role so the location is flexible to suit you. You may be in Bristol or perhaps home based in the South West or in South Wales. The suitable candidate will be managing projects across the region travelling as necessary.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the role of Major Projects Manager will be responsible for identifying potential schemes, typically larger than £50m, which require high volumes of Tarmac products and recommend projects that are best suited to Tarmac or will help the business to grow, rejecting those with unreasonable risk or low chances of success.

The role of Major Projects Manager will also:

  • Matrix manage teams made up from Business Unit, Regional and Functional staff to develop and execute work winning ideas
  • Help to position Tarmac as a key partner with selected customers
  • Identify strategic fixed assets and suggest new / mobile assets to support increased revenue
  • Produce quality pricing documents that differentiate Tarmac
  • Create and maintain a network of contacts who are influencers on major projects
  • Identify health and safety risks for unusual activities and support the operational teams to develop mitigation measures
  • Produce insightful and concise management reports
  • Develop and manage Key National Account Customer relationships developing a collaborative work winning approach to major opportunities

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Major Projects Manager will have prior experience of securing and managing projects that drive value to the business as well as developing bid submissions to secure new project work.

Suitable candidates for the Major Projects Manager role will have:

  • Established project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Confidence and proven ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels both internal and external
  • Ability to motivate team members in a matrix management environment
  • Strong numeracy skills and commercial acumen with a good understanding of how to maximise profit
  • Experience writing successful quality submissions and proposal documents
  • Ability to call on a network of contacts in customer organisations to support work winning (preferred)

This is a mobile role and a company car/car allowance is provided so a full UK driving licence is essential.
