Major Projects Manager

We are currently looking for a Major Projects Manager to join our team based in Kent.

Role Responsibility

As part of the Commercial Management team this role will work with key stakeholders and provide management of key projects within the region, that will drive significant value to the overall business.

The role will look at both securing these key projects and gaining insights from the market for the business to ensure that all opportunities are taken, as appropriate. 

Leading the coordination and development of bid submissions to secure work on major projects that increase revenue and profit above Tarmacs business as usual expectations.

• Identify potential schemes, typically larger than £50m, which require high volumes of Tarmac products.

• Recommend projects that are best suited to Tarmac or will help the business to grow. Reject those with unreasonable risk or low chances of success.

• Matrix manage teams made up from Business Unit, Regional and Functional staff to develop and execute work winning ideas.

• Help to position Tarmac as a key partner with selected customers.

• Identify strategic fixed assets and suggest new/mobile assets to support increased revenue. • Produce quality and pricing documents that differentiate Tarmac.

• Create and maintain a network of contacts who are influencers on major projects.

• Identify health and safety risks for unusual activities and support the operational teams to develop mitigation measures.

• Produce insightful and concise management reports for the Commercial Director and local management teams

The Ideal Candidate

● Skilled communicator, confident when dealing with all levels of management; internal and external.

● Can call on a network of contacts in customer organisations to support work winning

● Established project management skills.

● High degree of influence and persuasion

● Able to motivate team members in a matrix management environment.

● Highly numerate with a good understanding of how to maximise profit for Tarmac.

● Excellent written skills for quality submissions and proposal documents.

● Good knowledge of Tarmac’s products and services.

● IT literate
