Manager - Asphalt, Loadout and Sand Plant

We are currently recruiting for a dynamic and forward-thinking Manager to lead and manage our fantastic Asphalt, Loadout and Sand Plant teams at our Mountsorrel Quarry, Quorn, near to Loughborough in Leicestershire.  This role is commutable from Loughborough, Leicester, Melton Mowbray, Grantham, Coventry, Birmingham, Derby, Nottingham, Tamworth, Lichfield, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Rugby, Northampton, Peterborough and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

The Manager will lead from the front to manage, inspire and be accountable for the Asphalt, Loadout and Sand Plant operations on our site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals in the role of Manager with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and plant and individual performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role. 

In this role you will be part of the leadership team at Mountsorrel Quarry and this role comes with a vehicle

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Manager - Asphalt, Loadout and Sand Plant, not exhaustive:

  • Manage and mentor direct reports and the wider Asphalt, Sand and Load Out Quarry teams
  • Leading and active management of the Asphalt, Sand and Load Out Quarry operational teams, along with the management of contractors also working on site in the area of operations
  • Delivery of toolbox talks
  • Manage all aspects of daily production including operational costs and control stocks
  • Drive operational performance through KPI’s
  • Effectively coach and performance manage all direct reports
  • Timely resolution of queries assigned to the sector
  • Take responsibility for their own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
  • Maintain site housekeeping to a high standard
  • Monitor Asphalt, Sand and Load Out operations to meet customer needs whilst meeting internal quality requirements
  • Responsible for the budget in relation to the plant you are responsible for across the Asphalt, Loadout and Sand Plant operations, these being both fixed and variable costs

Key Stakeholders you will liaise with in the responsibilities of this role:

  • Area Manager - Business Manager – Health & Safety team - Procurement and Support teams - National Logistics team - Area Operations teams - Area Commercial teams - Area HR Manager - Industry Bodies - Customers

 

The role is a DAY shift position but the successful candidate will be expected to work at least one or more night shift in the month due to having responsibility of a 24/6 operation, as about half of the team on site work either later or permanent night shifts, along with this the managers are at times required to work over a weekend to provide 8.1d cover – so adaptability is key to this role.

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role the ideal candidate for the position of Manager you will have experience and knowledge of:

ESSENTIAL Experience

  • Previous experience of similar operations in a Quarry environment – would prove highly beneficial in this role
  • Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
  • Working knowledge of production processes
  • Strong working knowledge of H&S and Environmental policies
  • Strong computer skills, experience with Fortek, SAP, Excel and/or similar platforms would be highly advantageous

DESIRABLE Qualifications

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • NVQ in fixed and mobile plant operations

Skills

  • Able to actively identify and implement site and process improvements
  • Able to look for opportunities to identify customer needs
  • Able to effectively communicate to feed opportunities into customer services / sales
