Are you a passionate, dynamic, and experienced Mechanical Inspector or have experience in condition monitoring systems; or are an experienced Maintenance Fitter/Technician looking for your next role?   We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Inspector looking to join our fantastic team here at our Tunstead Quarry site, close to Buxton in Derbyshire. The role is easily commutable from Buxton, Macclesfield, Stockport, Dronfield, Manchester, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Leek, Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, you as the Mechanical Inspector a key part in the drive for improved reliability and efficient plant operation through the effective monitoring of plant running and performance conditions to ensure any deterioration is identified and validated prior to failure at our Stone Quarry.

The main function of this role will be to monitor, collate, record and analyse specific engineering and process measures and conditions, prepare reports and generate work orders to prevent unplanned premature plant failures. The role will ensure planned maintenance schedules, condition reviews and task frequencies are prioritised based

Responsibilities of the Mechanical Inspector (not exhaustive):

  • Input and support to the continued development of business criticality and the continuous development of preventative maintenance schedules, FMEA’s and condition monitoring techniques to deliver the required level of plant reliability 
  • Conduct first level and specific inspections in a proactive manner against a defined schedule and ensure any measurement set points or defects identified are inputted into CMMS 
  • Contribute to the continuing development of condition-based monitoring initiatives and systems by being aware of industry developments in own area of focus
  • Develop required service level agreements and evaluate condition reports, prioritise resulting actions and create work orders to rectify defects back to standard
  • Carry out minor repairs within own capability and competence to support the continuous performance in your area of focus to drive the required levels of fixed asset reliability
  • Monitor and trend condition set points and plant condition, predict maintenance activities and provide reports for budget planning and to enable all repairs to be carried out in a planned and cost-effective manner
  • Maintain inspection records and trends and ensure plant technical manuals are kept up to date with relevant information
  • Attend daily performance meetings to identify any defective operational conditions (mechanical) that may affect production performance and feedback on raised defects status and monitoring result
  • Support and actively contribute to plant failure and RCA investigations

The fundamental in the role of Mechanical Inspector is to be able to provide flexibility, knowledge and determination to drive the plant forward in its production.

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role of Mechanical Inspector, you as the ideal candidate you will also be able to demonstrate proven experience working within a mining, quarrying, Stone Processing, heavy industrial industry, or a similar environment with a strong engineering background. As well as being able to demonstrate Line management, leadership, and communication skills.

Specific Requirements:

  • ESSENTIAL - Time served mechanical apprenticeship
  • ESSENTIAL – minimum ONC/HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • ESSENTIAL – experienced in a heavy engineering environment
  • NEBOSH and/or IOSH Managing Safely
  • Full UK manual car driving licence
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental standards and be able to demonstrate leadership in this field
  • IT Literate, particularly SAP and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Must be meticulous and pay attention to detail with confidence to address actions with peers/line manager
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise decisions and propose actions
  • Be proactive by proposing technical improvements by learning lessons from previous experiences
  • Be able to show good report writing skills in a clear and concise way
  • Must have the ability to understand, collect, organise and analyse data to understand cause and effects relationship
