Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter

We are currently looking for an experienced Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter that can work on rollers, pavers and JCBs to join our friendly team covering the Yorkshire region. This role forms part of our 24/7 engineering function maintaining plant equipment primarily on the motorways and local authority roads in the region. If you have experience maintaining agricultural equipment including JCB tractors, combine harvesters or indeed paving plant equipment then this is the ideal role for you.

This Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter role is easily accessible from Skipton, York, Harrogate, Catterick as well as Sheffield, Worksop, Leeds, Whitwood, Castleford, Rothwell, Oulton, Swillington, Garforth, Wetherby, Whinmoor, Oakwood, Bradford, Dewsbury, Wakefield, Headingley, Otley, Pontefract, Halifax and the surrounding area.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Mechanical Foreperson, your role as Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter will be responsible for:

  • Responding to plant breakdowns – ensuring assets are returned to production in a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution
  • Undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all production equipment
  • Owning small scale projects and delivering them in a pragmatic and proactive manner
  • Taking a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities and coordinating with contractors and suppliers when they are on site
  • Participating in root cause analysis so repeat failures can be eliminated
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through your own observations and experience
  • Working with risk assessments and method statements and contributing to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures
  • Maintaining and promoting Health & Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures
  • Challenging unsafe conditions and practices, reporting these through company procedures
  • Utilising the computerised maintenance management system and recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used, and repairs carried out. Using application-based inspection schemes

 

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision. You should also demonstrate proven experience working within an industrial, agricultural, factory or similar environment as a Mobile Fitter. Suitable candidates will:

  • Have a recognised apprenticeship (preferably a higher-level standard)
  • ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential)
  • Have a strong, practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred - conveyors, drive systems – pavers, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens
  • Experience of welding and fabricating to a good standard is preferred and able to remove and fit bearings
  • Possess a fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action
  • Be capable of undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment
  • IT literate - capable of using PCs, common applications and company systems
  • Competent in the use of application-based inspection schemes
  • Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly
  • Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices
  • Flexibility to attend Plant specific training courses and Workshop as well as positive approach to travel across the Yorkshire region

Suitable candidates for the role of Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter will possess CPC or be willing to train. You will also have a full UK driving licence with less than 6 points as a company van is provided with fuel card.
