We are currently looking for a Materials Testing Technician to join our friendly team based at Tarmac Stancombe Lab, located within a quarry at Flax Bourton, Bristol. This role will also support Tarmac Cricklade Asphalt Plant, Swindon.

This role has a company van provided and is commutable from surrounding areas of Bristol/ Swindon.

Role Responsibility

Reporting directly to the Senior Technician, the role of Materials Testing Technician will be responsible for:

• Organising day-to-day lab activities to ensure test regimes and workload are met (with assistance).
• To carry out sampling and testing of aggregate and asphalt in line with contract requirements. This will involve weighing of, washing, grading and reporting of multiple materials.
• Ensuring the quality of the materials is monitored for both internal and external customers.
• Supporting the Operational team to ensure compliant materials.
• At times, visiting other Tarmac sites to carry out various sampling and testing duties.  
• Always adhering to company Health and Safety procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for Materials Testing Technician will have aggregate and asphalt laboratory experience gained within the construction sector.

We do, however, welcome applications from candidates without experience as full training will be provided.

This Technician role is not a typical ‘lab coat’ laboratory type of role – it is a vital hands-on site-based role, wearing PPE working with quarried materials.

Suitable candidates for the role of Materials Testing Technician will:

• Be hard working and self-motivated.
• Have excellent communication skills.
• Have an understanding of material testing and site construction operations.
• Be accurate in their work and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
• Be able to work independently and to collaborate as part of a wider team.
• Possess a good numerical aptitude (handling calculations/interpreting results)
• Be flexible in their working approach.
• Be Health and Safety conscious.

ESSENTIAL - Full UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 points as you will have a company vehicle for business use for this role.
