National Commercial Development Manager

Job Introduction

We are currently looking for a National Commercial Development Manager to join our team based in Solihull. In this exciting and challenging role, you will support the National Commercial Management team to develop and implement the National Commercial Strategy. In addition, you’ll build strong relationships with key national account customers to deliver a consistent approach to stakeholder engagement which develops early work winning opportunities. You will also work to develop and apply specific knowledge in selected market sectors, feeding major project pipelines which support key customers and major project work winning opportunities. 

Role Responsibility

In this role you will be responsible for a number of tasks including: 

  • Supporting the development and delivery of the national commercial strategy by developing and implementing selected customer account strategies to increase the Tarmac share multi-product spend 
  • Assisting in identifying and securing targeted major project opportunities and contributing to expert knowledge to strategies with alignment to customer and project work winning
  • Supporting the link between the National Commercial strategy and other business unit strategies ensuring alignment to customer requirements
  • Developing and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships for selected key national accounts and leading business to business engagement activities to grow relationships across the organisation to become a route to identify pre-tender arrangements and early work winning opportunities  
  • Identifying key influencers and decision makers and leveraging this to establish frequent dialogue to drive a broader awareness and understanding of the Tarmac offer
  • Creating opportunities to develop bespoke solutions and innovations for the customer though sharing the customers’ needs and expectations, to support the development of internal strategies  
  • Developing detailed account plans for customers and delivering to pre-determined activity plan and goals whilst supporting key customers in winning their targeted pipeline of opportunities through collaboration, commercial support and innovative solutions  
  • Supporting the tendering process as required with specific customer knowledge, identification of value-add benefits, and contributing to the quality submission 
  • Developing and delivering against the annual forecast for customer spend with Tarmac based upon customer pipeline awareness and Tarmacs’ capability. 
  • Co-ordinating Tarmacs’ commercial offer for national frameworks or pricing for customers when appropriate, ensuring a consistent approach and a one point of contact
  • Contributing to selected market sectors and developing a value proposition for Tarmac to identify how sector knowledge can support engagement with customers to demonstrate the value-add opportunities on offer for projects. 
  • Improving and encouraging internal communication ensuring knowledge is shared across all business units regarding customer meetings 
  • Understanding key internal stakeholders and how a collaborative approach will enhance the customer offer and provide consistency in approach across Tarmac and promoting that success via the Intranet
  • Supporting the development of case studies to demonstrate value add benefits for use in future tenders and capability documents. 

The Ideal Candidate

As our ideal candidate you will have proven communication skills with the ability to motivate people and teams. As a bid contributor you will also possess excellent verbal and written skills, and extensive proven use of MS365 suite. It’s likely that you will be a tenacious and driven individual who continually maintains active and regular dialogue with customers and key stakeholders and as such, you’ll have a proven track record of developing collaborative working relationships internally and externally. 

 

In addition, you should be able to evidence complex negotiation and influencing skills and as you’ll be part of a team, have a proven ability to effectively co-ordinate activities across the Group. Your strategic understanding of client drivers and how major contractors operate will also be apparent.

If you can demonstrate an ability to drive and influence growth in construction sectors and have a broad understanding of the UK construction market that would be advantageous.
