National Technical Director

We are currently looking for a National Technical Director to develop and lead the implementation of a clear technical strategy across all Tarmac product areas (Aggregates, Cement, Lime, RMC, Asphalt & Building Products) and to ensure the business stays at the forefront of technical developments within the industry. This key role will be responsible for standards applied and measured across all businesses in UK & I, ensuring they are agreed nationally and delivered.

Role Responsibility
Reporting to the Managing Director (Building Products & National Commercial) the National Technical Director will create and implement a centre of excellence across all Tarmac products to champion the development of recycling, optimising mixes and other methodologies that will develop market share and unlock profitable sectors using non-standard approaches.
As National Technical Director you will challenge the status quo with your innovative, forward-thinking approach to create a clear Technical Strategy across Tarmac. Focussing on optimisation you will be responsible for driving research and development to deliver cohesive, compliant, sustainable solutions to customer issues driving product development, market development and innovation with a key focus on commerciality and sustainability of all products and services, to deliver major projects.
You will also challenge and improve technical performance to ensure it is lean and effective. Working with regional businesses and internal Commercial and Operational teams you will drive product optimisation, quality and cost management delivering innovative and sustainable solutions ensuring strategies are aligned reporting to Executive Committee on quality performance.
Actively influencing and leading industry forums and governing bodies to ensure Tarmac is at the forefront of developments, you will manage with an open approach to team engagement, to ensure sharing of product knowledge, drive effective implementation and succession planning to maximise laboratory effectiveness.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of National Technical Director will have experience in influencing and leading teams and projects and delivering business synergies and targets. You will understand the importance of harnessing technology effectively to lead and deliver change and view this opportunity from a broader perspective, not afraid to challenge and think differently. Using your technical credibility and industry leaving knowledge of technical functions, you will engage and influence both internal and external stakeholders. Suitable candidates for our National Technical Director opportunity will demonstrate:
- Sound understanding of delivery on financial measures
- Drive and ability to meet Quality Performance Indicators
- Strong influencing skills both within the organisation, external stakeholders and wider industry bodies
- Proven ability to both lead and inspire people to achieve
- Versatile approach to resolving issues with emphasis on innovation and sustainability
- Evidence of capability to plan for the long term while delivering the short term
