Operations Manager

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager to join and lead our operations teams at our Tarmac Asphalt2Go Asphalt Plants in Scunthorpe and Hull. This key role is responsible for ensuring all materials and product are safely and efficiently produced and dispatched within expected budgetary constraints to meet or exceed customer requirements. As well as Scunthorpe, this role is easily accessible from Brigg, Broughton, Hull, Barton-upon-Humber, Doncaster, Pontefract, Castleford, Thorne, Goole, Immingham, Grimsby, Lincoln and surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the role of Operations Manager will work closely with their direct reports at both sites and other Operations Managers across the region. This varied, complex and rewarding role will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day safe operation of the Plants with particular focus on meeting and exceeding production targets, cost containment, safety, health and environmental standards and employee motivation and management.

 

The role of Operations Manager will also be responsible for:

 

  • Optimising by monitoring production forecasts and site resources in the most cost-effective way
  • Working with multiple site teams to actively seek opportunities to achieve more sustainable ways of working and ensure strategic initiatives are delivered 
  • Owning site improvement plans, accountable for delivery against agreed targets
  • Delivery of HSE performance for the area 
  • Contractor management and performance review 
  • Responsible for driving a preventative approach to maintenance, allocating maintenance resource accordingly
  • Ensuring sites always have competent managerial cover in line with regulatory legislation  
  • Developing operational teams and succession plans within sites - leading, coaching and mentoring members of the team  
  • Managing investments to ensure they are delivered safely on time and within budget 
  • Stock management across the sites and linking with the supply chain team on correct sourcing decisions 
  • Working in partnership with customer services and commercial department maximising company performance through stock management and product opportunities  

 

The Ideal Candidate

 

The ideal candidate for the role of Operations Manager will be able to demonstrate proven experience working within a similar environment successfully leading operational teams across several sites. You will also possess experience of influencing and engaging multi-functional teams, leading by example preferably within the extraction industry or similar.

 

Suitable candidates for the role of Operations Manager will have:

 

  • Experience working at a similar level gained within similar sector 
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessments and developing safe working procedures
  • Proven experience managing teams, staff development and managing projects including effective budgeting and cost control
  • Experience building successful relationships with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Well organised work style, able to manage competing priorities, planning for work activities and projects
  • Analytical approach to monitoring trends, interpreting results and making data-driven decisions
  • Critical thinking skills, obtaining and evaluating information from the teams across the sites to take critical operational decisions
  • SHE NVQ level 4 in Health and Safety (advantageous)
  • Minerals Extractive foundation degree (advantageous)
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Wamitab (advantageous)
