Pensions Specialist (Maternity Cover)

We are recruiting a dynamic, enthusiastic Benefits Manager (Pensions) to join our team based in the West Midlands covering maternity leave with a handover commencing from mid October 2023. This vital role will act as a key contact for external third party providers and internal company stakeholders. You will manage the company pension schemes and various employee benefit arrangements ensuring they are compliant.

This role is working on a hybrid basis meeting on site occasionally at our Tarmac Solihull office in the West Midlands therefore it is easily accessible from Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Tamworth and across the West Midlands and East Midlands. We also offer flexibility on days so you could work 5 full days or you may opt for reduced hours across 4 days if preferred.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Head of Reward the Benefits Manager (Pensions) will have overall responsibility for the management of Tarmac company pension schemes and various employee benefit arrangements. The emphasis is on managing the pension schemes and you will manage a Benefits Advisor who supports with other employee benefits (company cars/PMI/Life Ass/Tarmac Reward/voluntary benefits).

The role of Benefits Manager (Pensions) will be responsible for:

• Management of all matters relating to pension schemes, life assurance arrangements, company cars, Private Medical Insurance, and other various voluntary benefit offerings available to employees
• Managing external providers
• Responding to employee queries (existing and former employees) and general stakeholder engagement
• Liaising with several pension schemes both on a formal and informal basis
• Writing newsletters (using previous wording/articles provided by Pension Providers) ensuring content is appropriate for all levels (those that are familiar with pensions and those that are not)
• Taking minutes of pension scheme meetings
• Writing and responding to letters
• Creating the communication/blog on Tarmac Reward for internal stakeholders
• Arranging and presenting webinars for internal stakeholders with external pension providers outlining their schemes
• Preparing papers for the Trustee Boards/Internal Pensions Committee (4-6 times per year)

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Benefits Manager (Pensions) will have strong experience managing corporate pension schemes ideally gained within an in-house role or experience working in a Pensions Consultancy organisation as a pensions subject matter expert.

Suitable candidates for the role of Benefits Manager (Pensions) will also possess:

• Pensions Management Institute (PMI) preferred or other pensions qualification or equivalent experience
• Experience of employee consultation meetings/group sessions
• Willingness to engage with stakeholders at all levels across the organisation
• Confidence to host and present events (online and F2F) to all levels of employees
• Passion for employee benefits and rewards, in particular pensions
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, keeping them engaged and informed
• Strong numeracy skills and enjoy working with calculations and spreadsheets
• Prove capablilty to manage workloads and prioritise effectively
• Adept skills using MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint
• Experience of pensions roadshows or pension employee surgeries useful (not essential)

This is a maternity cover opportunity. This is a critical role and hence we are looking for someone to commence mid October 2023 for a handover and then commit to the full duration of the contract (approx 13 months).
