Plant & Transport Coordinator

Job Introduction

We're looking for a experienced Plant & Transport Coordinator to effectively manage the internal and external plant and transport ordering and procurement process.

The role will involve operating the centralised plant and transport ordering function ensuring that all requests are processed in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures. This will include ordering, delivering and allocating internal assets to the correct projects using the Company’s IT platform and managing the procurement and allocation of all external plant hires in the most economically advantageous way for the Company.

 

Ensuring department compliance with the purchase ordering and goods received process to ensure accurate cost data and accruals.

Production of internal and external hire reports and close monitoring of utilisation (key measure).  

Contributing to the success of the Procurement department, supporting the material procurement process as required.

Role Responsibility

As Plant & Transport Co-ordinator you will have worked in a similar industry and will have experience of working in large, complex organisations. Other responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Ensure compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental requirements and company procedures.
  • Daily hire and off-hiring of plant and transport, monitoring delivery/return and liaising with delivery teams to resolve issues
  • Coordinating of our fleet of internal grab lorries to maximise their outputs and decrease the need to hire from third parties
  • Correct allocation of costs to projects to ensure accurate cost reporting
  • Procurement of external plant/transport in-line with agreed supplier arrangements
  • Arranging job to job transfers of hired plant
  • Negotiate new hire rates
  • Procurement of plant /transport in-line with Company procurement process
  • Collate and format monthly stats and reports for management teams
  • Maximise internal plant/transport utilisation
  • Work with the Plant & Transport Manager to ensure internal assets are supplied maintained and returned for maintenance at set intervals
  • Costing of damaged plant and transport back to contracts – challenging external suppliers and ensuring off hire process followed to reduce these costs
  • Provide cover and support to the material procurement team

The Ideal Candidate

As the ideal candidate, it is envisaged that you will be educated to at least secondary school level (e.g. A-Levels or equivalent). Your experience should include a knowledge of mechanical plant equipment and you will ideally have a hire company background.

In addition you should posses: 

Good administrative and organisational skills. 

Computer literate with Excel competence essential

Excellent communication skills

Good understanding of customer service expectations and excellent telephone manner Able to deal with reactive work

Commercial awareness
