Job Introduction

Project Manager – Dunbar Cement Plant, Scotland 

We are currently seeking a Project Manager to join our fantastic team at the Dunbar Cement Plant in Scotland.

Main Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will be responsible for: 

  • Acting as the owner of the 3-Year Plant Improvement Plan related to capital projects.
  • Being an integral member of the Maintenance Team, ensuring projects are well managed and integrated into plant operations with minimal disruption.
  • Managing all site project financial commitments, forecasting monthly spend, and updating regularly to communicate with the wider business.
  • Carrying out feasibility investigations and sanity checks on proposed projects.
  • Creating project proposals for submission to the wider business for approval.
  • Developing and contributing to project plans to determine timeframes, identify limitations, and establish procedures for accomplishing projects, including staffing requirements and resource allocation for each phase (including CAPEX applications).
  • Participating in the development of plant program/project planning, scheduling, and resource management practices.
  • Balancing capabilities with demand to ensure successful project delivery using qualified internal resources.
  • Managing issues and escalations related to project delivery.
  • Leading, motivating, and engaging project teams to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Maintaining standard governance and compliance for all projects.
  • Providing programme/project health reviews and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Acting as a project management expert for processes and best practices.
  • Supporting post-implementation reviews and integrating lessons learned into future projects.
  • Responding to internal or external compliance audits or investigations.
  • Supporting the Maintenance department as required.
  • Proactively promoting safety and health performance and behaviours among project teams and contractors to continuously improve safety standards.
  • Communicating effectively through toolbox talks and serious event reviews.
  • Managing risk assessments within the department and cascading task lists to drive safety and environmental competence.
  • Ensuring housekeeping and safety standards are implemented across all projects.
  • Participating in root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives.

 The Ideal Candidate 

Key competencies include: 

  • Budget management: up to £10m.
  • Project management experience: 5+ years, including major projects.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills across all organisational levels.
  • Team player – supporting the One Tarmac approach.
  • Excellent numerical and financial accounting skills.
  • High-level report writing ability.
  • Experience preparing major project CX requirements.
  • Site management experience (essential).

 Essential Qualifications 

  • Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical).
  • NEBOSH Certificate (desirable).

 Desirable Qualifications 

  • Management qualification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CDM regulations (CDM qualification desirable).
  • Prince2 certification.

 Experience 

  • Proficient in MS Project software.
  • Broad experience in the cement industry.
