Quantity Surveying Higher Apprentice

Role Responsibility

The Norfolk Highways Maintenance contract provides us with the opportunity to offer a Quantity Surveying Higher Apprenticeship to work in a busy environment delivering highway maintenance works to Norfolk County Council. Your role will be to ensure that works are delivered within programme, in a safe manner and commercial targets are met whilst learning how to work as part of a wider operational team.

Your fundamental duties will cover a wide range of activities including learning how to:

  • Oversee the measurement and preparation of valuations
  • Prepare and agree interim valuations and final accounts
  • Record, monitor and review the financial performance of contracts
  • Manage financial accounts and report to senior management on the framework performance
  • Liaise and present to the client on the framework performance
  • Secure payments from customers within the specified contract terms and manage payment of subcontractors
  • Pricing and agreement of highway maintenance schemes target costs
  • Administration of highway maintenance schemes in conjunction with operational teams including Early Warning notification and the pricing and agreement of Compensation Events

The apprenticeship will be backed up with formal training at a Tarmac approved college. In addition to this, we will also provide industry recognised Plant and Health and Safety training.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A flexible approach to the working day is required as weekend work and night work is possible
  • You will need to be able to drive
  • You must have achieved a minimum of 3 A levels or equivalent qualifications
  • There will be a need to keep a portfolio of the work skills you experience so you should have basic IT skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Numeracy and analytical ability
  • A desire to influence people is essential in this role and you will need to be a good communicator and motivator
  • Drive and ambition to succeed
