Senior Finance Manager, Strategy & Investment

Job Introduction

As a senior member of the Finance Team, leading its Strategy and Investment team, the Senior Finance Manager, Strategy & Investment  will play a pivotal role in ensuring Tarmac maximises the value generated from its portfolio, capital investment and strategic development projects.

Business partnering the Strategy Director, National Commercial Director and senior management business teams you will play a leading role in shaping Tarmac’s growth strategy and delivery of its organisational goals.

Supporting the Director of Strategic Finance, the role will drive value creation, enhancing RONA by:

  • Managing the delivery of the Development Case for Tarmac’s 5 year Strategic Plan across all UK operations and leading the annual portfolio review.
  • Leading on Strategic projects to support business sponsors and project teams with financial expertise, providing due diligence, deal structuring and advisory guidance for both buy-side and sell-side deal negotiations   
  • Ownership of Tarmac’s capital investment programme with responsibility for managing the capital expenditure application, budget and forecasting processes across the Group.
  • Partnering the business in the development and review of high value development projects.
  • Ensuring the provision of high quality financial models and modelling support by the finance team to improve decision making for key major capital, National Commercial infrastructure, M&A projects and tracking post project performance.

Role Responsibility

Strategy

  • To finance partner the Strategy Director and team by providing financial expertise and leadership to drive the successful  delivery of strategy reviews, development projects and M&A transactions.
  • To lead the delivery of all financial aspects of portfolio and strategic reviews for Tarmac, aligned with CRH group priorities and goals.
  • To ensure capital is actively managed and accurately reported across Tarmac and responsible for managing an effective post-project review process, including benefits tracking delivery.
  • To provide effective business partnering to the National Commercial Director and team in contract bid strategy and bid tenders including contract negotiations, financial due diligence and contract risk management.

Business performance

  • Lead the coordination and financial management of Tarmac’s 5 year strategic plan development case and ensuring alignment within Busines Unit budgets.
  • Lead on the financial appraisal of all new Strategic and development projects, driving improved insight and challenge and partner the business to deliver significant value enhancing propositions.
  • To own the management capital investment programme across Tarmac for budgeting and forecasting in line with CRH group policies and governance and to drive improved forecast accuracy.
  • Lead the production of financial performance and benchmarking information for the purposes of portfolio reviews, strategic projects and managing a robust and objective post project performance tracking of capital and M&A investments

Customer and other external relationships

  • To finance partner the Strategy, National Commercial, Finance and Project teams in the development of strategy and execution of major investment projects.
  • To build and manage strong relationships with CRH Investment Appraisal and Group Accounting teams, in addition to Tarmac Business Unit Finance Teams.
  • To build effective relationship with Tarmac FP&A Team to ensure a high degree of coordination on the Tarmac 5 year Strategic Plan and capital expenditure reporting, budgeting and forecasting
  • To manage key interactions with 3rd party and external advisers on transaction support services and deal execution.

Leadership & team development

  • To support further integration of Tarmac Finance with CRH through promoting effective collaboration.
  • To lead team of finance professionals within a high performing business environment
  • To lead on best practice in development and investment, including coaching and mentoring of both Finance and non-Finance colleagues.
  • Advance a positive work culture, where effective people management and personal development is a key priority.

Other

  • Play a key role in supporting delivery of Tarmac’s Finance Strategy.
  • To undertake ad hoc support to wider Finance and business as required.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate would:

  • Hold a relevant accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) and/or be qualified by substantial relevant post qualification work experience. Being an MBA graduate would be beneficial but crucially must have the ability to apply their specialist skill set to achieve our desired outcomes.
  • Possess proven experience in the preparation and evaluation of large development investments, strategic projects and/or M&A transactions.  A background in practice or corporate finance is desirable.
  • Have excellent financial modelling and business planning skills with proven track record.
  • Be a confident communicator, able to engage, build effective relationships and influence across all levels of the organisation and experience of presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Be inquisitive and highly analytical by nature, with demonstrable experience of using insightful analysis and review to track and challenge performance.
