Senior Geologist

We are currently seeking a Senior Geologist to join our highly capable and well-regarded ​Strategic Planning team in Land and Natural Resources. The role will be based in Tunstead, Derbyshire, however you will have the opportunity to work independently both remotely, and across our Midlands-based sites.

This is a role that will provide the ideal candidate with a great deal of diversity of scope, and an opportunity to work with and influence stakeholders up to Director level within Tarmac.

Role Responsibility

In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the regional mineral strategy.
  • Design sustainable schemes to develop land for mineral extraction.
  • Provide expert geological, hydrogeological and quarry design advice for the assessment of new prospects, scoping/development of planning applications and development of existing sites.
  • Support the National Exploration team in resource evaluation of new mineral prospects.
  • Provide specialist geological advice and expertise to assessment of business acquisitions and disposals.
  • Optimise quarry designs to maximise returns from new and existing operational mineral assets, and identify and deliver opportunities to drive improved value from mineral strategies.
  • Support the Strategic Planning team in budgeting, forecasting and management of L&NR Capex projects.
  • Maintain auditable estimations of Reserves & Resources.

 

The Ideal Candidate

To succeed in the role you will have experience/knowledge of:

  • Geological setting and characteristics of UK aggregates.
  • Legislation in relation to geotechnical consideration in quarry design and operation.
  • Legislation in relation to management of hydrology/hydrogeology for quarry design and operation
  • Aggregate extraction and product knowledge.
  • Mineral reserve and resource estimation to international reporting codes.
  • LSS Software (or equivalent) and the modelling of quarry developments.
  • The production of safe, effective and efficient quarry development plans.

You will also possess a relevant degree, and ideally be of Chartered status, however we will consider candidates who are working towards this.
