Senior Technical Manager (Aggregates and Asphalt)

We are recruiting a Senior Technical Manager to join our Southwest and Wales Leadership team to lead the regional technical team ensuring maximum performance by executing the technical strategy aligned to all HSEQ requirements. This key role will develop and execute short and long term strategies, aligned with Tarmac and CRH strategy and values and the suitable candidate can be based out of either Tarmac Stancombe, nr Bristol or Tarmac Hendy, Pontyclun, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. 

The role is easily commutable from Nailsea, Weston-super-Mare, Bristol, Chepstow, Newport, Cardiff, Gloucester, Penarth, Barry, Bridgend, Port Talbot, Maesteg, Merthyr Tydfil, Cwmbran and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

Reporting directly to the Regional Managing Director, as well as maximising performance, the role of Senior Technical Manager will be responsible for leading the regional technical team to a target of zero harm through adherence to safety standards and continually seeking improvements to optimise our practices, including wellbeing. You will also ensure we deliver and exceed performance targets and develop and execute the region's short and long term operations plan.

The role of Senior Technical Manager will also be responsible for:

• Leading the regional technical team to ensure maximum performance by executing the technical strategy and delivering targeted optimisation priorities
• Aligning technical operations and our technical offer to the business sustainability strategies
• Working with operations to optimise the use of Recycled Asphalt Planings (RAP)
• Recognising quality issues and instigating corrective action
• Supporting the Regional Pave business with effective contract bids promoting alternative pavement designs and solutions proposals
• Administering the Contracting technical requirements including the optimum use of subcontract technical resource for specific contracts
• Through coaching and leadership, develop a robust, diverse and inclusive succession plan for all key roles within the technical team
• Direct client engagement to promote our solutions range
• Assisting operational teams to deliver solutions to slow moving stock and mineral related product issues
• Building effective relationships with clients, engineers, industry colleagues and opinion leaders within industry circles and local government to ensure Tarmac is positioned as market leader

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in the role of Senior Technical Manager you will have an established track record in an aggregate and asphalt technical role, demonstrating excellent knowledge of legislation, test methods and material standards and specifications for aggregates and asphalt. You will also have in depth knowledge of production processes and techniques.

Suitable candidates for the role of Senior Technical Manager will also possess: 

• Ability to engage with highways engineers and other specifiers and clients from a technical solution perspective
• Solid track record in delivering financial targets as well as a focus on developing talented individuals and improving performance via effective management and coaching
• Proven leadership skills and the ability to communicate a vision and motivate a large team of employees
• Confidence to effectively challenge when required to affect change and optimise
• Proven expertise in developing and executing business strategies through multiple teams
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop relationships internally and externally
• Passion to drive results
• Good customer awareness and the ability to instil trust
• Aptitude for problem solving and optimising work
• Ability to positively influence others and value differences
