Senior Transport Manager

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Transport Manager to join our team at our Hopkins Bridgwater site; based in Somerset.  The site is easily accessible via most major road networks. The plant is easily commutable from Wincanton, Burnham-on-Sea, Taunton, Street, Langport, Somerton, Yeovil, Chard, Wellington, Glastonbury, Weston-Super-Mare, Wells, Minehead, Tiverton, Ilminster, Shepton Mallet, Clevedon, Bristol and surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

As a Senior Transport Manager, you will be covering both our sites located in Bridgwater and Wincanton and will be responsible for delivering a safe & efficient transport service to the Hopkins Concrete business.

Additionally, the Senior Transport Manager will be responsible for managing all relevant documents and information to deliver the most efficient schedule along with ensuring the company meets all statutory obligations of the rules and regulations in respect of Operator Licence, transport legislation and Company procedures. In addition you will be required to develop and deliver a Transport Strategy in line with the businesses growth plans. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Senior Transport Manager, not exhaustive: 

  • Efficient & safe management of Fleet & driver requirements including all statutory O licence requirements, drivers hours management and maintenance of all statutory vehicle records.​ 

  • Manage induction, training and development plans for all drivers 

  • Ensure all drivers are suitably trained, including Driver CPC requirements and customer service training 

  • Ensure all vehicles are maintained and serviced in line with regulation and guidelines.​ 

  • Responsible for ensuring all documents are up to date and appropriately recorded and filed to ensure regulations are fully met​ 

  • Identify and implement Transport Safety Improvement Plans 

  • Undertake H&S investigations as required. 

  • Management of all people issues within the team including Absence Management, Training Plans, learning and development, Performance Management 

  • Effective management, coaching and development of all direct reports and drive full employee engagement​ 

  • Proactively manage communication with all Operational staff to ensure company announcements and information is distributed and understood 

  • Deliver agreed monthly KPI reports to the Hopkins Concrete Management team and the wider business identifying out of scope numbers and remedial action plans 

The Ideal Candidate

In order to be considered for this position, it is desirable that the Senior Transport Manager has; or has a willingness to develop the following: 

ESSENTIAL Experience  

  • Road Health and Safety Management​ 

  • Contract Management​ 

  • Contract Negotiation​ 

DESIRABLE Qualifications  

  • Certificate of Professional Competence with refresher completed within last 5 years​ 

  • FORS Practitioner​ 

  • Experience of a multi-site transport operation​
