We are currently looking for a Skilled Surfacing Operative to join our friendly Tarmac Bellshill Contracting Team based out of Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, Central Scotland. This role is easily accessible from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and Fife areas.

Role Responsibility
Reporting directly to the Foreman, you will be part of an Asphalt machine lay gang working on a variety of schemes such as motorways, airfields, new build carriageways, local authority streetworks, private and industrial commercial works. Experience in similar works will be an advantage. Duties of the Skilled Surfacing Operative will include the day-to-day operations as per the daily/weekly plan. The role is to operate within Health and Safety guidelines whilst meeting work demands. Working to keep general housekeeping to a high standard in your daily work.
The successful candidate in the role of Skilled Surfacing Operative will specifically focus on operational tasks including:
- Working with asphalt on-site and operating machinery (including pavers, heavy rollers and JCB 2CXs) for which you will require the requisite competency cards.
- Day to day maintenance, maintaining the highest levels of housekeeping
- Maintenance and driving a culture of zero harm and behavioural safety
- Compliance and awareness Health and Safety measures around the site
The Ideal Candidate
As part of an operational team, you as a Skilled Surfacing Operative will be able to demonstrate proven experience of working within a similar environment. You will also:
- Have experience in road surfacing including asphalt although product knowledge is not essential
- Be flexible and self-motivated to succeed
- Able to work as part of an effective team and motivate others
- Have knowledge of Risk Assessments
- Have knowledge of SSOW (HIRA) and Permit systems (preferred but not essential)
- Be compliant and engage with company policies, targets, goals and standards
- IT literate - preferred but not essential
- Flexible to work varying shifts including nights and weekends
In the role of Skilled Surfacing Operative we will support training for a candidate from a similar industry.
