Sustainability and Social Value Bid Writer

We are currently looking for a Sustainability & Social Value Bid Writer to join our ambitious team. This role reports to the Head of Pre-Construction.

Role Responsibility

In this role you will be responsible for a number of tasks including:  

  • Working closely with Future Generations Manager, Social Value Manager, Pre-Construction Team and Operational Teams to support a number of project teams simultaneously to ensure that sustainability and social value requirements are central to our Work Winning activities.
  • Writing the Social Value and Sustainability section of tenders covering Social Value areas including the TOMs framework and Future Generations (Wales) Act. Producing tender specific Social Value project plans. 

  • Researching regional social value issues and create trend reports to relay back to the business. 

  • Guide bid teams and operational teams around the specific requirements of particular clients, local authorities, and frameworks. 

  • Support the Pre-Construction Director in exploring and researching future markets aligned with sustainable construction and the Net Zero Agenda. 

  • Working with the SHEQ Team to ensure our sustainability, social value and environmental targets (i.e. sustainable sourcing of materials, carbon reduction, circular economy, etc) are measured, recorded and align with the needs of our customers.  

  • Attend meetings as required with clients, stakeholders, legislative, other third party and internal requirements on sustainability and social standards, ensuring the business remains informed. 

  • Identify and liaise with relevant partner organisations, such as local schools, charities, employment and skills agencies during tender stage to ensure we offer genuine commitments within our bids. 

  • Capture best practice and produce case studies for use in bids and marketing materials 

  • Be proactively involved in industry forums and networks, updating the business with the latest knowledge and developments. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • The individual must have experience related to the construction industry, social value and sustainability 

  • Social value in public procurement awareness 

  • Strong communication skills including excellent written communication 

  • Ability to deal confidently with colleagues, subcontractors and external consultants 

  • Ability to work independently and use initiative whilst also able to work as part of a team 

  • Understanding of sustainability issues in construction 

  • Knowledge of the Future Generations Act, Public Services (Social Value) Act, Considerate Constructors Scheme, Social Value Portal, TOMs Framework, CEEQUAL, Welsh Government Community Benefits Measurement Tool 

  • A clear, positive and effective communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills
