We are currently recruiting for a Technical Coordinator to join our friendly team based at our Tarmac Llanwern site at Newport, South Wales. In addition to Newport, this role is easily accessible from Cardiff, Magor, Caldicott, Cwmbran, Pontypool, Pontypridd, Blackwood, Caerphilly, Bridgend, Abergavenny, Chepstow, Lydney, Bradley Stoke, Forest of Dean, and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility
Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, the role of Technical Coordinator will manage two technicians within a UKAS accredited laboratory, covering testing and certification of asphalt laid by Tarmac Contracting. Additionally, this role will also work closely with the contracting commercial and operational teams, reviewing specifications and design proposals that will deliver benefits in line with the National Contracting strategy.
As Technical Coordinator you will also be responsible for:
- Line management of 2 Technicians
- Management of UKAS materials testing laboratory
- Maintaining and supporting UKAS accreditation and standards
- Advising the Senior Technical Manager and Operational staff when quality standards are being compromised
- Coordinating programming of sub-contract site testing services and reporting of test results and checking reports
- Working closely with the operational teams to promote a proactive approach to material quality and workmanship standards
- Providing testing and technical support to mobile plants producing asphalt, concrete and hydraulically bound materials
- Investigating material and workmanship complaints, working with National Contracting and our Supply business
- Providing technical support and solutions to clients on major projects and local authority frameworks
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Technical Coordinator will possess extensive asphalt knowledge in terms of performance and testing. Suitable candidates for the role of Technical Coordinator will also have gained experience working as a site or laboratory materials technician and have:
- Strong understanding of civil engineering materials, materials testing (Asphalt and Concrete) and site construction operations
- Strong knowledge of UKAS compliance, technical requirements and relevant Standards and their application
- Knowledge of asphalt operations and techniques
- Experience of compiling reports for both internal and external customers
- Confidence to liaise with stakeholders at all levels
- Be confident in offering solutions to customers based on material selection or pavement design advice
- Good IT capability
- Good communications skills
- Knowledge of Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Role related degree advantageous
