This is a really exciting project in Birmingham and you would benefit from being a local resident as we are currently looking for Technicians to join our friendly team based at Tarmac’s brand new site in Washwood Heath in Birmingham. Our team will unlock the natural attributes of the stone we process to deliver standard and specialist aggregate solutions, such as gravel, crushed stone, sand, slag and recycled concrete. We will also mix Ready-Mix Concrete in our batch plant and asphalt which is a composite material commonly used to surface roads and parking lots.

Role Responsibility

Reporting directly to the Plant Supervisor, you will work collaboratively, providing a quality control link between the Operations and Technical teams. You will be hands-on, sampling and testing product on a daily basis, problem – solving as needed. You will also advise on continuous improvement initiatives and any customer complaints. You will, therefore, work closely with all members of the team and you will contribute to ensuring high safety and quality standards across the site. 

The working pattern will include shift work to ensure that all our customers needs are met effectively. These will be very flexible at the start whilst we prepare the site and team, but they will eventually become routine at 4 on and 3 off and include night and day work. 

The Ideal Candidate

You do not need previous experience of working with asphalt as we can provide full training from our friendly teams at other local sites. However, you do need to be a passionate learner and committed to learning new skills. You will also need to work in a collaborative manner and rise to challenges as this is a brand new site we are opening. You will also be curious and motivated to drive not only your development, but to help with the growth of the team too. A commitment to high quality and safety standards, both for yourself and your team, will also help to make the site a success. Finally, good communication skills and the ability to build friendly rapport with a wide range of people would be beneficial.
