Tradesperson / Ganger

Job Introduction

We are currently recruiting a Tradesperson / Highways Ganger to join our Highways team working on the Norwich project of works.

 

As the Tradesperson / Highways Ganger you will be instrumental in the successful delivery of kerbing, paving, drainage and patching works within the Norwich and Norfolk region by Tarmac along with our sub-contractors. Additionally you will provide guidance on highways management matters to your colleagues at Tarmac #worksafe #homesafe.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

Day to day responsibilities for this role of Tradesperson / Highways Ganger will include:
 

  • Supporting the delivery of our programme of works
  • Having a keen eye for detail and reporting Safety Observations on our Tarmac reporting system 
  • Carrying out pre-start checks on each machine you are operating (including hired-in plant)
  • Leading your gangs to meet targets and minimise costs to maximise profitability and offer any alternative methods of working 
  • Ensuring all plant is safely and securely stored in the designated areas at the end of your shift
  • Health & Safety – Zero accidents and environmental incidents
  • Ensuring all Health and Safety standards are being adhered too across all works alongside collaborating, promoting and developing Health, Safety and wellbeing innovations

You must be able to work overtime to cover out of hours emergency call out and winter maintenance duties as directed

 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Tradesperson / Highways Ganger will be able to clearly demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the below criteria:

  • Kerbing
  • Paving (Block paving and slab works)
  • General groundworks/earthworks
  • Surface water drainage 1.2 metres and above
  • Understanding of installation of temporary works/shoring equipment
  • Duct installation/traffic signals
  • Footway/carriageway construction

 

You will also be in possession of the following:


 ESSENTIAL

  • LGV/HGV licence would prove highly beneficial for the role, therefore if you hold this please make this evident on your application
  • NRSWA card
  • Experience in construction and highways maintenance works
  • A valid UK full manual car driving licence – no more than 6 points

DESERIABLE

  • Relevant machine operator competency certificates
  • Gritting driver experience would prove highly advantageous

 

The role is based from our Tarmac Norwich site, in Norfolk and is accessible and commutable from such locations as Norwich, Wymondham, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Sheringham, Thetford, Swaffham, Fakenham, Cromer, Kings Lynn, Downham Market, Beccles, Gillingham, The Broads, Aylesham, North Walsham, Dereham and the surrounding areas.
