Apprentice Engineering Maintenance Technician

Job Introduction

Do you have a passion for problem solving, identifying solutions to technical challenges?

Join us as an Advanced Apprentice – Engineering Maintenance Technician, where you’ll play a vital role in keeping our vehicle fleets and technical equipment, safe, functional, and efficient.

Engineering Maintenance Technicians (know as Fitters) are essential to the smooth operation of our PAVE solutions business, ensuring equipment runs effectively, any breakdowns are swiftly managed, and ideas for improvements are implemented.

This hands-on role is your opportunity to develop technical skills and embark on an exciting career in contracting, using the engineering knowledge and skills that you develop whilst completing this apprenticeship learning pathway. .

As part of your apprenticeship, you will complete the Maintenance, Operations and Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship pathway, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to excel in this field, before moving into your destination role upon successful completion of your learning.

Role Responsibility

In this role, you will:

  • Work on our fleet of vehicles used in the laying of roads and highways, ensuring all equipment/vehicles are safe and functional.
  • Complete daily maintenance checks to a high standard.
  • Conduct mechanical and health and safety tests to ensure systems are reliable.
  • Manage equipment breakdowns by identifying and repairing faults.
  • Suggest innovative ideas to enhance efficiency.
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles providing all with a clean and safe working environment, prioritising safety in all tasks.
  • Tackle tasks both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in restrictive spaces – full protective equipment and safety support will always be provided.

  • A good communicator – Able to collaborate effectively with operational teams and stakeholders.
  • Eager to develop – Self-driven to learn both on the job and through structured studies.
  • Detail-oriented – Capable of maintaining high standards in all tasks.
  • Safety-conscious – Committed to fostering a safe working environment for all.

Educational Requirements

  • GCSEs A-C (9-4) in English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications.
