Multi Skilled Operative – Crown Farm Quarry, Northwich

Tarmac is recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative to join our team at Crown Farm Sand & Gravel Quarry, near Northwich. The site is easily accessible from Winsford, Middlewich, Rudheath, Barnton, Frodsham, Chester, Crewe, Sandbach, Congleton and the surrounding areas.

Working as part of a multi‑skilled operational team, you’ll support the production of dry aggregates for the construction industry while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance.

Main Responsibilities

As a Multi Skilled Operative, your role will include (not exhaustive):

• Operating mobile and static plant, including loading shovels
• Handling and processing aggregates across the site
• Carrying out weighbridge duties
• Supporting day‑to‑day plant maintenance and ensuring high standards of housekeeping
• Training on and operating static plant to support plant optimisation
• Working collaboratively within a team of around 9 operatives to deliver high‑quality materials and on‑time customer service
• Maximising plant availability and efficiency
• Assisting the Supervisor with daily and weekly production targets
• Promoting and maintaining a zero‑harm safety culture
• Complying with all site health, safety and environmental procedures
• Supporting risk assessments and safe systems of work across the site

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in a quarry, aggregates, industrial or factory environment, preferably operating heavy plant or mobile equipment. Quarrying experience is desirable but not essential.

You’ll also be able to demonstrate:

• Experience working in a health and safety‑critical environment
• Good timekeeping and time management
• Experience operating mobile plant (including loading shovels)
• Knowledge of risk assessments and safe working practices
• Flexibility to work across different tasks as part of a multi‑skilled team
• A self‑motivated approach and the ability to work well with others
• Strong communication skills
• Full UK Driving Licence
• IT literacy
• Loading Shovel licence (preferred but not essential)

Previous experience as a Multi Skilled Operative is beneficial however, full training will be provided for the right candidate.
