Project Manager
Job Introduction
Project Manager
Hydro International is now proudly part of Tarmac, within the wider CRH Group — combining specialist water and wastewater engineering expertise with the scale, stability and long‑term opportunity of one of the UK’s leading construction materials businesses.
With over 40 years of engineering excellence, Hydro International delivers advanced water management solutions that help municipal, industrial and construction customers improve performance, reduce environmental impact and protect communities from flooding and pollution.
Operating in more than 40 countries and supported by an international network of over 80 distribution partners, Hydro plays a key role within CRH Infrastructure Products, leading the sector with innovative, sustainable and safety‑first solutions.
This role sits within our UK Wastewater Services (UKWWS) team, supporting water utility companies by inspecting, maintaining, refurbishing and installing wastewater filtration and handling equipment across the UK.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Heathfield / Portland‑based team, supporting projects predominantly across the South‑East.
This is a customer‑facing, hands‑on role where you will manage engineering projects from initial enquiry through to completion, ensuring delivery is safe, compliant, on time and within budget.
You will take ownership of project performance, customer relationships and field delivery, working closely with operational teams, suppliers and internal stakeholders. This role offers variety, responsibility and strong progression potential for an experienced engineering or M&E project professional.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing multiple engineering projects ranging from high‑volume / low‑value to high‑value / low‑volume
- Leading the full project lifecycle, including quotations, approvals, delivery, invoicing, cost control and close‑out
- Visiting customer sites, carrying out audits and overseeing field‑based technician teams
- Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, owning relationships and communication
- Planning work orders, resources, RAMS, programmes and critical paths
- Managing suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams to meet delivery requirements
- Conducting commercial project reviews and agreeing project terms (internal and external)
- Monitoring cost, margin, profitability and performance across assigned projects
- Identifying technical and commercial risks and implementing mitigation plans
- Producing monthly KPI, performance and financial reports
- Identifying and maximising sales opportunities through innovative engineering solutions
- Working collaboratively with engineering, operations, commercial, proposals and delivery teams
About You
You will bring:
- A current, valid UK driving licence
- An engineering background (mechanical or electrical preferred)
- Experience managing engineering or construction‑based projects
- Knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts (desirable)
- A proven track record delivering projects to challenging deadlines and budgets
- Strong organisational and planning capability across multiple workstreams
- Confident communication skills with the ability to engage customers and stakeholders
- A proactive, collaborative approach and experience leading field‑based teams
Why Join Us?
As part of Tarmac and the CRH Group, you’ll benefit from secure, long‑term employment, strong operational support and the opportunity to build a lasting project management career within essential UK infrastructure.
Our benefits include:
- Competitive salary
- Life assurance – 2× annual salary
- Company pension scheme
- Company sick pay
- Minimum 23 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
- Flu vaccinations
- DSE eye tests
- Mental Health First Aiders and wellbeing support
- Ongoing training and development
- Succession planning and clear opportunities for progression
