The Role
We are seeking a Technical Sales Manager (North) to drive specification growth across the UK stormwater market.
This is a strategic, national role focused on influencing design at the earliest possible stage. You will work closely with engineers, designers, local authorities and major contractors to secure product specifications, shape technical solutions and position Hydro’s industry‑leading technologies across infrastructure, residential and commercial projects.
It’s an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical knowledge with commercial influence — building long‑term relationships, delivering CPDs and turning early‑stage engagement into successful project outcomes.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
- Develop and deliver a national specification sales strategy for the UK stormwater sector
- Secure product specifications by engaging with consultants, engineers, local authorities and major contractors
- Influence key technical and design decisions at concept and planning stage
- Build and manage a strong project pipeline, tracking opportunities through CRM
- Deliver CPD presentations to engineering, design and architectural practices
- Represent Hydro at industry events, exhibitions, seminars and trade shows
- Work collaboratively with Regional Sales Managers to support forecasting and project conversion
- Partner with internal technical, proposals and customer service teams to ensure effective solution delivery
- Provide market insight, including competitor activity, emerging trends and customer needs
- Ensure all activities comply with Health & Safety requirements and ISO 9001 standards
About You
Technical & Sector Expertise
- Strong experience in technical solution selling
- Good understanding of Civils, Infrastructure, Residential and Commercial construction markets
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and design documentation
Sales & Influencing Skills
- Proven track record in specification‑led sales
- Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills
- Confidence building relationships with stakeholders at all levels
Personal Attributes
- Highly self‑motivated, organised and comfortable managing a national territory
- Professional, collaborative and customer‑focused
- Results‑driven with excellent time‑management skills
Experience & Qualifications
Required:
- Experience in technical sales within the construction sector (civils/infrastructure preferred)
- Proven success securing specifications at design stage
- Experience delivering CPDs or technical presentations
- CRM experience (Microsoft Dynamics 365 desirable)
Preferred:
- Experience in stormwater, drainage or environmental engineering
- Knowledge of SuDS, stormwater legislation and planning frameworks
Tools & Technology
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM
- Digital project intelligence tools (e.g. Barbour ABI)
- MS Office and digital presentation platforms
